• I am considering starting a steam group for SFM collaborators, as a place for film makers and content creators to get together to produce films in an open, collaborative environment, but before I pull the trigger and actually make it public, I want to be convinced that people will get value out of it. Please post your opinions below. It occurs to me that non-community beta members might not be able to properly see the page, so I'll copy the"about" text here.
What this is all about. Hello, My name is Zachariah Scott. I've been creating machinima and working in mods and games for about 10 years now, and over the course of my misadventures I've learned the great value of working within a team of motivated and enthusiastic artists, as well as the value of specializations. Several years ago I worked in a machinima team called Lit Fuse Films. In that team we had an incredibly effective and motivated group of specialists, composers, directors, actors, 2d and vfx artists. Each a specialist in their own field. Working like this we were able to become one of the most well known machinima groups on the internet, but more than that, we were all able to make art, and support eachother, and compliment eachothers talents. I want to get back to that kind of environment, but with one key difference. I dont' want to do it as some single film group, but as an open community that allows everyone the chance to make those connections and find those talented individuals to work with. A place that can eventually run itself sufficiently without my input. The driving motivation behind making this group, is to create an environment where motivated filmmakers can get together and assemble teams to make movies. The goal is to provide a community of like minded volunteers, who, if they choose to do so, can then form into teams or just provide general assistance and support to people who are creating films. At the moment I'm still figuring out how all of this is supposed to work. The eventual goal is to make this group public and self sufficient, but until I can be happy that it will actually provide value to it's members, I'm keeping things invitation only. If you would like an invitation, contact me on steam. -Zachariah
• This would be a really good idea I think. There's a lot of stuff I wanna make but I'm kinda limited since I'm only good at texturing, so I can't do things like Modeling or music, so I think this kind of open group environment could really make for some terrific films. This will be even better when the community update comes out and we'll have a message board of sorts to work with. I'm all for this idea and would love to be a part of it.

 • Seems like a great idea, sometimes I need ideas or people to help along with projects and this should be helpful. I don't really join Steam groups but this will be my first. I support this.

 • Yeah, I'd be down for it. Learn new things, help others learn, everyone wins.

 • I'm good at pretty much every aspect of SFM, but ESPECIALLY lighting c: I'd love a group like this.
 • I don't remember the exact quote, but from my experience, it's pretty much true: in the source community, people who know what they're doing prefer not collaborating and stick to their own projects I've seen groups like that trying to be formed only to be never really used... IMO it's useless

I'm trying to find a way to break that mentality, at least for a small community of members, but its definately true that all this could fail miserably. Gotta get creative.

Like, I have a huge project I want to make, but I want custom models for it. I could potentially meet someone who could do such a thing through this group. It's worth a try at least.

 • I'm for it. I'm not good with SFM, but I can do a lot of VFX work such as color correction, explosions, etc, and voice acting.
