• Just a heads up, this thread was created back before the Beta was announced, and was posted in the TF2 section before being moved here. http://sourcefilmmaker.com/ OPT IN WITH THIS LINK - steam://takesurvey/3 Petition to have the SFM Beta fully public - http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/we-want-open-beta-of-source-film-maker/ About Source FilmMaker[sub][sub]Shamelessly stolen from the Official TF Wiki[/sub][/sub]
Source Filmmaker (SFM for short) is a tool used to create most of the videos running the Source Engine. Source Filmmaker is a video capture and editing application that works from inside the Source engine. It allows users to record themselves many times over in the same scene, creating the illusion of many participants, as well as supporting a wide range of cinematographic effects and techniques such as motion blur, Tyndall effects, Dynamic Lighting, and depth of field.

SFM allows you to: • Record footage into: • Uncompressed AVI file • TGA files • Frames of Footage, user defined • Single Frame, similar to a ScreenShot • WAV files of sounds • (All can be done simultaneously) • Record yourself performing one part, then rewinding and record yourself performing another • Publish videos directly to Steam (option is available in-game, but nothing happens when selected) • This option was most likely used by Valve, does not work for current, unofficial version. Control camera placement and movement • Add per-object motion blur and depth of field • Import choreography scenes • Ability to modify bone placement and facial expressions of characters
Ok, can you give me a link to this? WOAH, WOAH, WOAH, hold the phone! It would be counted as Warez if I gave you a link to the leaked SFM, but I am allowed to give you this to help you out. • Brilliant. In order to give content i'm going to repost an old video that gives a small example of what SFM is capable of.

 • you wouldn't recommend SFM to someone who has no experience in doing anything animation-wise, right this sounds really interesting and i'd like to test it out

 • okay this took more time than it should have when i exported it the audio lagged, so i had to export a wav and avi and then sync it up worth it

 • Gee golly gee I sure wish I could get this, but the only available provider is very poor and goes at 0.01 kbps a second.
 • Anyone know how I can load SFM as a full, borderless window? Adding the required launch options to the shortcut in steam and the shortcut it's led to doesn't do a thing.
 • I'd love to make a serious SFM video but ONLY IF I GET A WORKING MAYA DMX EXPORTER OR A 3DSMAX ONE AKXMAJRFXAMBSJ

If you get the ambient sound in there and sync up the footsteps correctly nobody will be able to tell and it'll sound INFINITELY better.

I missed this and actually had no idea what I was doing wrong for quite a long time until I started experimenting in animating and figured out what I was doing wrong.

 • Does anyone want to have a go and see if they can successfully export a 2-and-a-bit minutes SFM video? It's all in one clip and all it's doing for me is exporting the first frame instead of the actual visual stuff, and continues to export that one frame over and over for the duration of the export - which I have to manually cancel. Audio exports fine. Alternatively, if anyone knows how to fix the problem, that'd also be much appreciated.

 • I think I actually managed to get it to export by doing it in 30-minute exports and when the last 2 left are done i'll stick 'em together in Vegas or some other program
 • Avatar of Pandamobile
 • I found that it's better to export lots of small clips rather than few big clips. It's easy to splice scenes together in post than to attempt to do your scene editing in SFM.

I've been using SFM since release and that has never happened to me. Have you tried zooming as much out in the timeline as possible? (scroll backwards) It might not be completely infinite.

 • Am I the only one with "-noborder" not working? Borders are extremely annoying and I can't get rid of them. My shortcut looks like this: ""D:\Program Files (x86)\Team Fortress 2 film maker\hl2.exe" -game tf -applaunch 440 -window -noborder -novid -tools"
