Spain's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said it was a "jihadist attack". Two people have been arrested, but police say neither was the driver, who fled on foot.
The second incident occured in Cambrils, another car attack which unfortunately killed one and injured six.
Hours later, police killed five suspected jihadists in a second vehicle attack in the town of Cambrils. A woman injured in that attack died later. Waiting for Trump to tweet and fight with Barcelona's Mayor before any of the facts come out. My prayers to the victims that they are going to be ok. (User was banned for this post ("Offtopic + Ban history - Bringing up Trump within 3 words, classy" - icemaz))

Here we go again... Remember guys, no pictures of the deceased
On a portuguese news channel they are mencioning two armed men in a restaurant as well
I hope this is just an accident not another attack. I also hope the injured recover soon and that no one dies. [editline]update[/editline]

Fuck! :(

They can call it a terrorist attack so soon already?
They can call it a terrorist attack so soon already?
The driver ran away after the crash, kinda suspicious? If it was an accident or a health issue (random heart attack) he probably wouldn't have done that.
The driver ran away after the crash, kinda suspicious? If it was an accident or a health issue (random heart attack) he probably wouldn't have done that.
Probably is a big if, though.
It seems there has been a shooting too, and 2 armed men took shelter in a turkish local and sized some hostages as well. It is presumed that one of the 2 men is the driver of the van.
They can call it a terrorist attack so soon already?
CNN and Fox are reporting(on TV no article yet) that Spanish authorities had intel intercepts that led them to believe this is a terror attack.
Third death confirmed, tens of people injured christ, to think I could've been there if I had stayed 2 or 3 more days and didn't leave yesterday :wideeye:
Bollard companies are going to have great years since this trend is picking up
This happened pretty close to me. Scary.
Sky news says 13 killed. Street filled with not moving people in videos I saw.
Remember that not everything is true. Stick to official sources and avoid rumors.
It's scary to think that this attack could have caught me if it had happened yesterday, as at around this time I was in Las Ramblas.
For those of you who don't know the two armed guys thing is true, it's the same guys who ran over the people in the van and have entrenched themselves in a restaurant. So it's pretty clear it's a terror attack. Source: Antena 3 news, El País and Spanish radio.
In case anyone wanted to see the route
If we're going by what happened in manchester, the first hours are going to be filled with all sorts of claims mainly because sources cant be verified and press will take any kind of input as long as its somewhat connected/relevant. What matters the most now are the victims and to keep everyone else as safe as possible.
This is where the van entered the pedestrian area. They absolutely should have had bollards. Hindsight's a bitch, but still, not even planters or anything to discourage people from driving in a pedestrian only area.
Guess it was a matter of time until we got hit. I live in Granada (home of the Alhambra) so this is sounding quite hard over here. My heart goes out to those in Barcelona.
It looks like it got really far. I'm surprised it didnt run into a bollard or something in all that distance.
No bollards at all to run into on the whole run from what you can see in Street view. [t]https://s30.postimg.org/42jgg5981/no_bollards.jpg[/t]
This is a shame. It's hard talking to people about these kind of things because there is no obvious solution One of the guys was arrested and his name published. His facebook profile is being filled with thousands of comments from death threats to deus vult memes
This is a shame. One of the guys was arrested and his name published. His facebook profile is being filled with thousands of comments from death threats to deus vult memes
Well no shit, he just ran down dozens of people in a famous tourist attraction
Well no shit, he just ran down dozens of people in a famous tourist attraction
I mean the attack is a shame. Not him getting spammed. Fuck him.
I wonder what General Franco would think about terrorism if he were still alive. Sad for these people, I hope everyone will recover as well as they can.
It sucks that bollards are gonna be common place around all public squares soon. Like in the city I live in they are on the main pedestrian routes but it always reminds me that they're crazy fuckers out there who think it's their duty to kill/injure people with their vehicles. Really fucked times, thoughts are with everyone in Barcelona. Stay safe guys
