This is horrifying, Christ I can't imagine what they went through
What's crazy to me is Gavin moved a few times and was very secretive about his new location because of this exact thing potentially happening. I imagine that he is planning to move again, or hire security. I would.
Doxxing should be illegal.
Wait, it's not?
Why is Gavin targeted so hard?
Because he's famous. He's not controversial. He didn't mess with anyone. He didn't have any sort of drama (as far I'm aware of). It's just that he's famous. That's all.
Why is Gavin targeted so hard?
Some people just don't like the sight of someone else being more successful and happier than them. With some cases of people taking that dislike to the extremes.

Update: Confirmed via RT Podcast / Reddit, it did happen to them and they have tried to keep it quite out of respect for all involved. Yep, it pretty much boils down to: Have someone else own the deeds to the house. A friend or family member with a different last name. Whatever. It's piss easy to find someone's address online.

I can't even imagine what it would be like to have this happen. Makes you realize just how vulnerable people can be at times. And how crazy others are.
Doesn't help that some of the early news articles on this posted the exact address of the house, and an image of it too.
Honestly, that's because it's not private information. Celebs having creeps/people that wish them harm has been a thing forever, it wasn't invented with the internet and doxxing.
Woah, fucking bizzare. I literally just started watching some Achievement Hunter vids today out of the blue and came across this article while watching a video with Gavin in it. I can't imagine the kind of anxiety an incident like this would cause, knowing that there are millions of people infatuated with you, and any one of them could, at any time, have something bad happen in their lives that could make them snap and do something like this. We live in both an incredibly amazing, and incredibly horrifying, time right now. Our technology enables so much good, but equally as much bad. Internet celebrities are now just as popular as Hollywood celebrities are( if not more, because the internet has enabled detailed looks into the everyday lives of these people, which creates an even larger infatuation and a sense of a one-way relationship amongst viewers ) It's almost genuinely necessary for large internet celebrities to have complex security systems and/or security staff now. It's really scary. I almost want to say "I can't say I envy them much", but in all honesty I still do. That's just how life works, putting yourself out there and risking everything is how you achieve the most in life, and this is an unfortunate side effect and possibility of being any kind of celebrity. Best wishes that Gavin and Meg continue forward and don't take it too hard or have any future incidents of this nature.
Doxxing is illegal. At least in the UK.
I've never heard that before. I had a quick google and it seems the CPS issued new guidance, but it wasn't clear what law applies. I presume the communications act?
