Bob Dylan will finally accept his Nobel Prize for Literature in Stockholm this weekend, the academy has announced. The American singer was awarded the prize in October but failed to travel to pick up the award, or deliver the lecture that is required to receive the 8m kroner ($900,000;£727,000) prize. The academy said it would meet Dylan, 75, in private in the Swedish capital, where he is giving two concerts. He will not lecture in person but is expected to send a taped version. If he does not deliver a lecture by June, he will have to forfeit the prize money.
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-39429032
fucking sell out
The times they are changing
Why is it mandatory to give a lecture to receive the prize?
Why is it mandatory to give a lecture to receive the prize?

According to the statutes of the Nobel Foundation, each laureate is required to give a public lecture on a subject related to the topic of their prize. These lectures normally occur during Nobel Week (the week leading up to the award ceremony and banquet, which begins with the laureates arriving in Stockholm and normally ends with the Nobel banquet), but this is not mandatory. The laureate is only obliged to give the lecture within six months of receiving the prize. Some have happened even later. For example, US President Theodore Roosevelt received the Peace Prize in 1906 but gave his lecture in 1910, after his term in office.
My guess is that the public or those who attend the lecture can be informed on the achievement. If it's information worth a Nobel Prize I am sure that is why it's a requirement to lecture....in order to share with other people.
fucking sell out
Why?
Isn't he a music guy, not a literature guy? Do they combine those categories?
why he got it at all is beyond me seeing as there is many many more people that should have gotten it before this narcissists' mediocre lyrics.
genuinely interested in why you think dylan is a narcissist
why he got it at all is beyond me seeing as there is many many more people that should have gotten it before this narcissists' mediocre lyrics.
this has to be bait
this has to be bait
while I agree that some might think his lyrics are not worthy of an award (of course things like that are subjective) but the narcissist part caught me off guard
never really like his music too much, but Idk if he's a narcisist
because he is doing it literally only now that they threatened to not give him his prize money. he's a self-absorbed cunt when he cannot even bother to make a statement on getting the nobel prize. the fact it took weeks (or months?) before "he" even acknowledged it shows how petty he is.
If you think it's about the money I'd say your analysis is way off mark. Why would he care? He's already loaded.
why he got it at all is beyond me seeing as there is many many more people that should have gotten it before this narcissists' mediocre lyrics.
Oh wow, you couldn't be more wrong.

I also don't like his music (specifically the way he sings) but recognize his contribution to music and culture.
