• Super Mario Sunshine Level Imports

Allo Everyone, for the longest time now I've been wanting to have some levels from semi-recent games available for TF2, with a few exporters I was able to get this .3ds file of Super Mario Sunshine's Delphino Airstrip, I have some issues regarding the vmf file to be exported but I'm still extremely amateur at mapping. Wallworm's documentation is down at the moment and most if not all video tutorials are for earlier versions of his tools. I have exported the scene as a .vmf but once opened in Hammer nothing is there, not exactly sure what to make of this if any of you know what do? I mean I can export this whole thing as a .smd but that wouldn't do much good in hammer editor, any work arounds? Help would be appreciated and credit given where credit is due. Thanks a ton
What importers/exporters did you use?
What importers/exporters did you use?
I used Dolphin to extract the .szs file then a decompressor to make it a Rarc then another extractor to finally get the .bmd file(Model File) then Using .bmdview2 to re-export the the model as a .3ds file, exporting to a .vmf I use the Wall Worm "Export Scene as .vmf" Script. Bmdview also exports TGA textures
Holy shit I loved that game. I would love to see this.
if you import some of them, be sure this music is part of the map's background music as it's amazing or this one Would love to see a few of Sunshine's maps in TF2 for random trade/fun servers.

maps can be made entirely in 3ds max? I thought it was just for props, and that maps/collisions needed to be made with Hammer.
maps can be made entirely in 3ds max? [editline]21st June 2012[/editline] Bump?
You could check out the Mapping section, there are mappers there who can give advice
The first thing that i do if you release this as map is drop sandvich into water :D
You could check out the Mapping section, there are mappers there who can give advice
Could you point me in said direction?
Could you point me in said direction?
On the main forum page in the Garry's Mod section, Mapping. http://facepunch.com/forums/38
Bump, sadly the mapping section doesn't really help much
Bump, sadly the mapping section doesn't really help much
Maybe you can try out http://tf2maps.net?
Doesn't hammer only support blocks and some morphing? Also, you could get google sketchup and import the 3ds file into that, then export as a vmf. Of course, you need some plugins that valve supplied. You look in the plugins section of the sdk section in either l4d2, l4d1, portal 2, or alien swarm.

I think you could create vmf mesh in Sketchup.
I would absolutely love if Delphino Plaza was made into a trade/random dickery map.
trade_delphino_plaza :D
trade_delphino_plaza :D
Noo, random dickery map.
I'm also trying to get a GameCube map into TF2, and it's the GameCube from Mario Kart: Double Dash. I got the rip but the map really needs a makeover; there's unneeded ploys and places without polys altogether. Even with this, exporting a mesh of it isn't working. If anyone can message me and fix the model then I could try again and make it into a map. The map could be great for Smash Bros., Pyro Dodgeball, maybe even Saxton Hale or Monoculus! It's a map that is a box of memories to me and would be nice to see.
This is an amazing idea! PLEASE DO THIS! And maybe adding a little more to the map so it could actually be balanced. I'd totally go for a modified Super Mario Sunshine map if it was balanced.
Hi! You could try to use SketchUp to export like they used here: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/howtos/howto_make_left_4_dead_map_google_sketchup SketchUp got some .obj importer plugin laying around somewhere. http://sketchuptips.blogspot.no/2006/12/plugin-obj-importer.html Simply export it to a .obj and then go from there in the tutorial! Hope this was helpful!
it isn't tf2 but i think hotel delfino or whatever it was would do a fine ttt map

I have some other Super Mario Sunshine maps if you feel interested in doing them since I don't want to mess around with Hammer. http://filesmelt.com/dl/Sunshine_maps.zip (Most are in .obj format)
Aw man I'm gonna go back and play SMS now.

The trees? I'm a bit stuck here
It would somehow be awesome to connect the areas into one huge map where you can choose to swim or maybe teleport to the other parts of the island. The map would be gigantic and probably not work, but it would fit since you can see just about all the worlds of the island in the distance while playing.
