I think default Medic is better [editline]6th March 2011[/editline] But that's just me. [editline]6th March 2011[/editline] Though I use Steampunk anyway.
I prefer the whiter metal parts on medic's belt. You guys did a fantastic job though.
I prefer the whiter metal parts on medic's belt. You guys did a fantastic job though.
This. And I think I prefer the Valve Medic's blue color scheme. The brighter blues make it much more obvious that he's a blue Medic on blue team. He was made with very bright blue elements due to the very light coat color; it's all so that he's easy to identify at first glance. I think your new blue Medic looks too similar to the red one...it may not look like it in still screenshots, but in the heat of the game quick identification is key. I really like the little tweaks like the fixed pocket (God DAMN you for pointing that out to me :argh:) and the realigned/higher-quality emblems, though. Is there perhaps a chance of releasing a version that keeps the original color scheme and only applies the small obvious tweaks?
lol
he has blue gloves, blue backpack, blue tint, blue pants. What more do you need? You want a blue face? blue hair? may i suggest blue shoes as well? Oh and make him navi while we're at it.

I love this. Enough with the "My pc is 10 years old, valve fix the game so it can work on my pc", we shouldn't go back in time just because some people(surprisingly quite a large amount) can't get a better computer.
You want a blue face? blue hair? may i suggest blue shoes as well? Oh and make him navi while we're at it.
make him nightcrawler, it will fit, since nightcrawler is german :v:
working on the pyros now and i must say i did quite good with the nades ridiculous attention to detail, as i bet no one would notice the back of the nades, but i mean if you can fix it why the hell not :v:
When are you releasing the Medics?
working on the pyros now and i must say i did quite good with the nades [img_thumb]http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/9643/awesomenades.jpg[/img_thumb] ridiculous attention to detail, as i be no one would notice the back of the nades, but i mean if you can fix it why the hell not :v:
Comparison?
When are you releasing the Medics?
the ones in the preview are in my "early texture tweak" linked in the OP the official ones aren't completely done yet
Comparison?
our pyros: [img_thumb]http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/8931/ourpyros.png[/img_thumb] valves: [img_thumb]http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/1887/valvespyros.png[/img_thumb] tank and boots: [img_thumb]http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/8332/tankandfeet.png[/img_thumb] Thing's we've fixed: ¤ less washed out logos ¤ gloves: are the same on both teams and the fingertips wrap better ¤ tank on back is now team colored and so is the little valve on the smaller tank ¤ grenades: texture wraps better ¤ soles: dents on the side isn't random, connects with the underside ¤ exponent/normalmap: bigger to allow more detail, exponent effects more parts (all metal, leather and rubber) plus a ton of tiny little details
I don't see the difference to be honest.
I don't see the difference to be honest.
Well, I can tell it looks a bit darker and cleaner.
I don't see the difference to be honest.
due to it mostly being many little things added a list [editline]6th March 2011[/editline] did some more work on the medics, the pouches are even more improved now and the untextured triangles on the pant's are fixed
It's fairly misleading to call these "improvements." In fact, this can be seen as quite a considerable visual downgrade. As I mentioned elsewhere a while ago, NassimO's "HD" textures are mostly off color, have a bunch of inexplicable flat-shaded and shimmering shadows scattered around (probably errors due to improperly created AO maps), and generally just lack the detail and highlights that gave the original skins their depth. Just take a quick glance at his own comparison images on Gamebanana and you can see the HD versions look far darker, flatter, and duller compared to the supposedly inferior low-res versions, namely in the Spy's suit, the Sniper's pants, and so on. To use these skins as a base for further edits would be placing you at a poor position from the get go. Yeah, the arm logos aren't quite so blurry, but is it really worth compromising the rest of the texture? Oh, and unnecessary alpha maps are still included in the VTF files, thus doubling the file size for literally no reason at all. Your Pyro textures, on the other hand, are exhibiting some really strong compression artifacts. That is what's causing the noise/pixelated squares to crop up everywhere. You can see it very clearly in the closeup of your grenades (edit: and now the gas tanks), but it's even visible in the zoomed out view of the entire body. Compression artifacts from saving in DXT format can't be avoided, but there's something else going on here that's amplifying the effect to an alarming degree. It's certainly not improving the texture, by any means. You're not continuously recompressing the same skin, are you?

You're not continuously recompressing the same skin, are you?
i know about the flaws of nassimO's HD textures, we have discussed it and they're alot better now. The purpose of making them in the first place was due to the deafult being smaller then the other classes'. and looking into things, the compression you describe about the grenades are by valve, i admit i havent improved them but thees are based the blue grenades, and the default blue texture looks exactly the same. (regarding the compression atleast) I suppose theres some compression, but know valve does it a whole lot worse then we, take a look at the blue engineer for example. as for the noise, that is in fact a reoccurring thing seen on pretty much all of th textures in tf2. they add detail and makes things more visually interesting rather then having smooth solid blobs of color. improvement can be a different thing to different people, as for us we're mostly going for consistency, and that includes visual noise. And the little flaws we might leave are hard to avoid, but even with those it's a clear improvement of valves textures. lastly thank's for pointing out about the nades, i'll use the metal from the original red texture, as its less compressed
the compression you describe about the grenades are by valve
Most of Valve's original textures only have one iteration of DXT compression, and what I can see in your demonstration screenshots is much beyond that. Just as an example, here's a comparison between Valve's completely original and untouched Pyro texture and the same texture after four DXT recompressions: [img_thumb]http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/2338/compression.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/2892/compression2.jpg[/img_thumb] The square pixelation is what I see beginning to appear here: [img_thumb]http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/8332/tankandfeet.png[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/9643/awesomenades.jpg[/img_thumb] These heavy pixelation artifacts don't appear after one recompression, hence why I asked if you are recompressing or had already recompressed an already compressed texture. If not, then something else is afoot.
well okay, i fixed those now... since nassimO worked on thees pyro textures before me i can't tell you what he did but i use the same pds file and every change i make is ether from the original or remade by me. but i'll make sure too look out for this in the future also i blame VTFEdit... it doesn't look like that before i convert from tga to vtf
Maybe it's just because the game is compressing the texture when it renders it?
Know what would be awesome? When you are holding the shotgun, soldier's sleeves looks ugly as hell. A new texture would be the shit
Know what would be awesome? When you are holding the shotgun, soldier's sleeves looks ugly as hell. A new texture would be the shit
world view or first person view?
first person
I must admit, NassimO is quite a genius (ignore the texture quality on blu, he had the setting on low) this goes in the "alternate" pile
I bump this topic to say that a Better HUD is comming up with this pack Example of the new Heavy's In-Game & Backpack HUD

here's a little update on soldier paintstrokes and edge-highlights not completely happy with the pouch at the back yet
The Soldier is the only one thus far that I could tell looks different without a comparison, that and the medic of course.
PLEASE make new gibs!
PLEASE make new gibs!
New gibs skin u say? Well, I have a new gibs skin here: Link But I gess I can say that there will be a new one as soon as all the skins (and alternatives) get done. Probably using some "Meet the Spy" blood style on it...
