• Building Mechanic Issue (Needs Fixing)

As I was playing today in the fun game of Rust, my friend and I were in a conflict with 5 other players. Being outnumbered and nearly a fresh spawn we had to use strategy to win, and eventually we fought them off, won the fight and took their loot as a reward. The game play aspect that I have a problem with is the simplest mechanic in Rust. Building. My friend and I were minding our own business in our wooden shelter when we notice that a wooden wall suddenly springs up in front of our door, preventing all possibility of exit. Eventually our shack was surrounded by walls on all sides, broken down, and with no way of escape these five individuals killed us and we were out of the game. My question to the players and to the devs is this. Why are players allowed to build on or around other people's stuff? This ruins the defense mechanic of strategic door placement. Is this free-build ability planning to be nerfed in the future or is it something that is not fully recognized. I feel as if my friend and I were cheated by the poor building mechanics and a hard fought victory was turned into a loss because of the issue. Thanks and any criticism/commentary is greatly appreciated.
They can't build on your stuff if there's no space to attach a foundation to yours. Also, I suspect building mechanics will be reworked at some point... or at least modified heavily. Plus there's the "house ownership" thing that should be showing up in a patch sometime... although I don't think anyone really KNOWS how that will work, exactly. (but we do know that someone somewhere will bitch and moan about it xD)
Yeah I agree with the poster. Too many people rely on building up the side of a base to raid, completely bypassing the design of the base.

Too many people rely on building up the side of a base to raid, completely bypassing the design of the base.[/QUOTE] If someone can do that to your base in the first place and gain access to a window with no bars or the top where you didn't build a ceiling, then the "Design of the Base" was flawed and you have no right to complain. It's a valid tactic in my view, which is why I secure my base a foundation at a time, then a floor at a time. Anybody who decides to build a tall base with wide open floors, very few metal doors per floor and haven't bothered to seal off the top in any way, deserve to have all of their stuff taken. However in regards to the OP's situation of being locked in but someone building walls around their base, that's a grey area for me. Either way, the devs are working on more defensive measures for players, as well as building ownership so you can remove things built.... and I heard something about booby traps.
I completely understand the penalty for leaving a window open or having a poorly built base. But in my situation my friend and I were in a wooden shack when walls started popping up around us. Our opponents built a foundation in front of us and barricaded behind us.
