I'm aware that there's no a Linux server-files available, but I was reading something sometimes ago from Rustafied or somewhere that there's a chance that Linux servers are returning (Maybe?). Is that true?
What? I'm using linux server binaries, right now on Debian 8. Actually I have had a server running linux for over a month now.
All you gotta do is install steamcmd and install rust app id on linux.

No. ;)

The fuck? Servers are running without stupid a** wine? So steamcmd provides Linux binaries now? Yay.

Yeah its kinda sad to see those numbers really, Linux is cheaper than windows and its headless so not as much overhead utilizing all the resources that you bought, which then goes DIRECTLY to the server for the game.
I have a dedicated box E5 running 6 cores, 6gigs of ram. Yet it only cost me 16% of a windows solution for a year lol. (Though I have been hooked up with a deal since i know the datacenter owner.) But still, average person will save much more. However, people think its "harder" to set up I guess, when its not.
I've been running the server on linux now for 30 days now. "top - 14:48:24 up 30 days," IMO It's easier to manage, Bash scripts for automated updates without impacting users online unless, there is a patch. Ability to use terminal to console for rcon, can monitor the server easier, but I'm a linux sysadmin so i'm kinda bias towards windows.
If you're familiar with linux/unix then it clearly is the better choise, but sadly by far not everyone is. Having my server running for about 90 days on linux now, not a single crash. So it's worth a look for everyone who know how to set it up. :)
