So I built a house, a big house, used hours on end to gather materials while beeing chased, shot and killed by players and wolves. I filled my house with stuff and built 19 metal doors that had to be blown to get in to the "loot chamber". I made alot of foundations around the building, then used 5 pillars on each foundation (or so I thought).
Results? Griefers made 3 wood walls that effectively makes it impossible for me to leave or enter the house.
I can understand beeing raided, people have to use C4 and whatnot to get into the house in hopes of finding some loot. Walling off buildings is just griefing for the fun of it.
Oh, and the C4 situation is that there isnt any airdrops on the server.
Is this intentional? Is this something that will be changed?
People get bored and have nothing better to do. First day I played I heard people had slaves in their backyard. They would close off someones house and give them food to eat. I thought it was funny. One thing about Rust.
Never get attached to anything.
I understand the time you put in. Just have to suicide to get out and start building some more. Keep two house with sleeping bags just in case

Not really attached to the house as I've got 3 more hidden around (with loot, sleepingbags etc). The reason why I'm asking this is because the feature (if you'd like to call it that) only promotes griefing.

All I can say is build another house for now, C4 still spawns in green crates in radtowns or on mutated animals. It's rare, but if it's really that worth it to you, just keep farming.
For future reference, always have at least 2-3 doors and put a foundation + a pillar in the middle ends of each foundation to prevent them from putting walls
best way to avoid that is put pillars in the middle of the sides as well. I put a pillar on every single place available to avoid stuff like that to happen.

As I thought I did (5 pillars per foundation). But my initial question still remains, is this supposed to be a feature or is it going to be fixed in some way?

The Devs intend it to be this way.
When you say fixed, I dont know how they would fix it. Claiming a house to a certain player then said player allows others to build on the base foundation? But then someone else can just build next door and trap you in other ways. The issue i see you having I doubt will ever be gone.
People are dicks.
Sorry, but you just got screwed by one..
you can place a total of 9 pillars on a foundation and 4 on a ceiling. so my guess is that you only put on the 4 corner and 1 in the middle but you can also put some in between the ones in the corners and those prevent people to put a wall

Mhm, the devs were talking about house ownership a while ago, it could remain this way, or it could change, but it's not set in stone

Actually it isn't really that hard, anything attached to the original foundation is made property of the player who built that original foundation. Simple fix for that one.
I doubt the devs intend this to work this way, as it is pretty much open to abuse by endless griefing. The game is in alpha, according to the devs it's "10% done", so this will probably be worked in the future. For now that's how it works though.

Figures one has to play by the current rulebook, but this feature seems only to attract griefers in a game that allready is a goldmine for griefers. Don't get me wrong, I love this game and the rage it can produce :)

Basic base design - If you have your main door facing a direction where someone can place a foundation, be sure to place the foundation yourself and add pillars in the red circles. Sure, this will block you from building further forward from your main door, but it also prevents griefers from doing the same... Or at least the basic griefer.
In the picture above, the griefer would have to spend quite a bit of time to screw you over, meaning, they would have to build at least 3 foundations, 7 walls, 3 ceilings, 4 pillars in order to close you off. Much more effort than any average greifer.
