Audio is iether too loud, or too quiet. And it's repedetive

Particularity for me, the sound of melee weapons (rock, stone hatchet, hatchet, pickaxe) hitting flesh (other players and animals) is just unbearably loud. I use a button on my keyboard to mute, just to harvest a kill.
I've read about another player saying the geiger counter was too loud. I find it very quiet however. So I'm wondering if maybe its just me...?
I suppose it would be silly for me to say "normalize the sounds" before adding them as finished assets. Because I can't imagine that facepunch hasn't already done this.
Alternatively a volume slider wouldn't address the problem either because I pretty much have the volume at minimum to be able to deal with the melee noise. It's worth mentioning as well that I don't want really want to need a slider for each sound effect.
As a game mechanic I would like people to be able to hear me smacking stuff from a good distance. But it's just too loud for me to want to hear my own character.
I also hope facepunch adds more variation in the sound effects, instead of the same effect repeating.
Does anyone else have any issues with the games audio?
