As you see in the title. Raiding is to easy. The average players just wants to build a small home, explore and maybe upgrade their homes when they have time. This means they will not have enough time to upgrade to armor, study BP's, have proper defenses before being raided. The casual players absolutely love the idea of Rust. The game is a rare breed. But it really only caters to though's that have many hours to play or are in large groups. If I build a base on day one. I can almost guarantee it will be raided the next day. After countless time this happens to players, you have a few options. Stop playing. I have many friends who stopped because they couldn't build a base that would last a week. Or you could turn into the countless a**holes that go around and kill for no reasons. This game is a free for all. And its not the strongest or the smartest. But the people who have the most time. Countless time have I spawned in, collected some wood, rock, then killed for no reason. Countless. And the top excuse I get is "This is Rust"-"Welcome to Rust". This excuse has become the calling for the kids that need an excuse to play the way they do. And this helps all the other kids to fall in line. The raiding is no where near balanced. You cannot upgrade your home fast enough to counter the raiders with C4 and rockets. So why play? Why take using your real life hours building a house that will be destroyed for (I'm sure) mats they already have? Because we casuals hope that the devs see this and will do something about it. But probably not. The truth is, we are just waiting for something better to come along... Sorry.
I suspect that you don't build well, as i hear these complaints 95% from people who build houses where you can see in and go in very very easy. There's no need to build a mega house, but it's insanely easy to build something that is simply not worth it to go into. What server (pop) are you playing on ?
welcome to RUST!
Play on server with smaller population or join some group - problem fixed! :p As Lancezh said, u probadly did some simple mistake in base design, if ur home can't survive 1 day. How many succesfull raids have u done, if u telling us its too eazy? Actually raiding is really expensive atm.
Don't build a base. There are lots of places to hide crates of loot.
Just make a hidden shack and store as much as possible there until u ready to build a good base that can take a hit or two
Well the whole point of this game is raiding. I can build secure base with few k of stone and wood, it will get overlooked by ppl with lots of c4 as its not big enough to waste c4 on it. And if some 1 does try its protected enough to waste them few c4. Tip : place few doors untill ur main loot room, behind walls put 2 half blocks and wall them off, on roof put half blocks also and put walls around them. There are 2 sides of wall inner and outer side, make sure its correctly placed.
Life is a lot more difficult than Rust, I suggest you buckle up.
Well the whole point of this game is raiding.
Incorrect. But that is what players have turned it into.
Incorrect. But that is what players have turned it into.
Then enlighten us what is the point... For me its all about alliances and wars with other clans

Sometimes I can put in a few hours, sometimes a long night and tired morning. My "groups" are usually people that also work and have families. So we are offline often. We absolutely love the thrill of coming along other players and not knowing if they are friendly. We are excited when we get in a gun fight over an airdrop. But countless times have we spent time building a base and cannot be on all hours of the night to protect it. So we just give up. Like I said before, the people with the most time, win. At the moment, the defenses are terrible. The newest walls were a great idea. The stone being so hard to destroy, but yet can be scaled so easily. The wood and wire one is much better. If you log into and main server, you will see ghost towns. Most, if not all have holes in their bases. Its obvious they have been raided and moved on. I logged into Hapis last night and it was sad to see so many homes that have been raided, everywhere. While I was reading chat about what home to raid next. lol. The balance is in the hands of the gamer's who put in the most time. The problem is the average gamer doesn't have all night to play. I'm sure by the time a decent size group has the man power, weapons, c4 and time to raid, they already have everything. What would you get from raiding someone else? Lets say a smaller base? You will not find diamonds or gold in their chest. You will not find super rare blue prints for an atom bomb. All you are doing is annoying other players and most likely making them leave the server or stop playing the game. Now, lets say that you could only raid other groups/bases that are equal in size. It would be a fair battle. But then the average raider would complain. Or lets say you can only raid someone while they are online, the raiders would complain. Most raiders look for easy prey. And easy prey is the average player. The games direction will lead to a game similar to an average FPS but with bases.. And if you log off, you will probably lose.

I play on 100 slot server so every 1 know each other, its easy for me to find ppl i dislike... I dont always go for loot, i go for ppl that piss me off i get more out of it then some loot. And no i successfully defended base against 10+ ppl before on my own. Its all about how u build it, u dont have to start big just make sure u can place lots more foundatio s around ur small base.

If you are building big then everybody knows you have a lot of loot. Everybody will drool to get that. You raid so they can't come with their c4's and even try to raid it while you are offline. Yes - there is not much to gain for yourself but others have a lot to gain from your base. Also we are raiding to remove people who build next to our compound. Removing the thieves who try to steal from our quarries etc. I still haven't figured out why people are building their bases next to a huge compound. You know that they will blow it up. This is a terrible tactics to build a huge compound and just wait for people to get enough c4 to raid you. No base is safe if people get their hands on to enough c4. Maybe that enlightens you a bit more why groups are raiding even casual players. You can never know who is farming up c4 and who is just playing casually - at least until you blow your way to the loot room.
I play 2 gamestyles, 1. clan/team - build big, bold, kill everyone and dominate the area 2. solo/lonewolf - bit of roleplay, survive, hide away, watch people............ Both are goof fun, I also never get attached to a server instance now as RUST is simply to unreliable for so many reasons, it is what it is. Lucky I love early game play in RUST.
Shoshin;48508867'] Lucky I love early game play in RUST.
I love it too and will continue to play, despite my annoyances. At first I wasn't going to write my rant here. I seen no point and only would look like any other gamer blowing off steam. The only reason I posted here is hopes that a dev would read it and pass it on. I'm sure they are already aware of my complaints but they need to know that people really do love this game and want to see to grow. I'm only afraid, as a casual player, it will be to fast to keep up :(
I love it too and will continue to play, despite my annoyances.
Thank yourself you aren't using the Linux client. I'm annoyed and can't play.
Play on pve server? Rust isn't for casuals. The word "survival" has a connotation of not being for casual players. There's also nothing that can be done about it. Clans will always dominate. If you make it difficult for clans to raid then small groups will be cut off from raiding entirely, making game even harder.
"Welcome to Rust!" = "I'm an idiot who isn't capable of comprehending the scale of game they are trying to develop!" No, all servers are NOT like that. Find another server. To say the game isn't for casuals is an incredibly ignorant statement. Do you honestly think their goal at the game's inception was "I know guys! Let's design a game where only the squeakers with no job/life/responsibilities who can play for 100 hours a week have a chance to enjoy it, and all the OTHER gamers will STILL spend the same money to buy our title, except we'll make the game experience SUCK for them!" ...no.

It's honestly all about the server. I've encountered people who literally only play RUST, they have one steam account, and it's RUST with 600+ hours. Server's with HUGE playercounts always attract a lot of people like this. You need to find a good server with reasonable rules, a really good thing I've seen is limits to groups of players. The fun instantly ends when a 15 man clanfag group joins and decides to crush everyone just because they can inhale resources and shit out C4 within a day.
I agree this game is only about numbers... biggest group almost always wins... Like i play with 2 friends... we dominated big area for a 2 weeks... But suddenly a clan appeard... They built their base in one day... 3 houses - 7x7x3... I counted 14 players... How do you want to raid them ? Its imposible... So ofcourse they raided us... Only way how to survive next time... is bring more friends with you.... Its nearly imposible to solve this problem by some fix... But i think... if maps were bigger than these small maps... it can help. Because if 200 people play on one server ( my London 1 for example ) they build their houses like 15 metters from each other... its stupid.

I am a solo player and on 3 servers in the past month I have dominated. Following simple rules of a single player will give you a serious edge over large clans. In essence, take away what they have and what are they to you?

We just need better defense and less offense. Make to were if you want to raid me, if have better be worth it. Make a 10 man group take 2 weeks to gather enough c4 to raid a medium size base. IMO c4 shouldn't even be in the game. Some lesser exploding type should. We use guns that are barely put together. Why not have explosions that do less damage? How are us players explosion experts? I guess we are all ex-Army demolition officers, washed up on the beach and now trying to survive.. ?

I can understand why people complain about this but think about it... Strength is found in numbers, there is nothing you can do when people take the initiative to find or bring others into the fold; its natural that a larger group will have a significant advantage over a smaller group or individual players. Also, if someone invests a lot of time into Rust to gather a buttload of resources, stock up on weapons and generally hoard items then good on them - they spent the time to achieve. Raiding has already become a fairly expensive endeavour. If you choose to live within the presence of a large, hostile and organised group then you have to adapt to survive or die. This could mean building a smaller base (or multiple smaller bases) that they would neglect raiding, hide your base well, make allies, make them your allies, join them or simply move. A small advantage I can see lonewolves employing is the fact that you have a smaller footprint in your area than groups of players. This means if you make a minimalist base hidden in the midst of rocks then you could wage guerrilla warfare against them, in a sense. You could ambush individual members of said group and potentially obtain their gear or mow down a few of them when they congregate. If you really lack the time then perhaps try finding a server with a smaller playerbase or one with a more friendly community. There isn't a lot more that can be done besides this.

" thats what i think you are missing man is that when we say this is rust its not some excuse its because thats what rust actually is. Yes it may be a survival game but theres nothing apart from players to survive from. yeah maybe a bear or wolf but you have a torch now. water and hunger is a joke now for the survival aspect but thats not what its about or they would have changed that allready. the whole point is to survive from people you can either fight or flight. plus you also never know what a naked has he could of came across a airdrop or a blueprint he already has think about it, think about all the naked thats alot of farm to get its not just for fun its just another type of farm
It's called....c4
Any clan will have much more c4 than any single player. Or do you grind all night while they're offline just so that you can break through a few walls of theirs? Because that's not exactly domination. Because there's no way you alone will be able to perform an online raid against a clan. That's laughable.
It's called....c4
Cmon... as I said... they built 3 houses - 7x7x3 in one day... How the hell you wanna blow them up with c4 ? Bigger maps = bigger distance between players = more safety = more space for big clans and solo players. I think the server should change his map size every month due to number of playing players.
Big maps are currently not viable due to technical limitations of float number precision. Though I think it's being worked on.
