You press "Crafting" then click " Workbench" . If you are playing on the EU server this change might not have been updated yet.
It will say what mats are needed to craft it
seriously, we need a workbench to craft a lot of thing in EU server and we can't because the workbench is not added in it. Just crazy.

Just don't play until they updated or go another server really =) Things take time!
I also think the camp fire doesn't work how it should work.
But yeah, its alpha.
IF you are playing on EU again...it does not work yet
