• Question about zombies being removed?

I saw on https://trello.com/b/lG8jtz6v/rust that one of the issues switched to "doing" was the removal of zombies and shortly after that, the replacement of the 9mm. I can kind of understand the replacement of the gun with us being cavemen and all that. What's the reasoning though for removing zombies? Are they replacing them with a more difficult/different enemy? The only animal that could pose a threat would be a bear, and even then they're still not in the least bit challenging if you have any ranged weapon. Zombies are one of the few things I have fun killing in this game. Especially the black ones, being that it takes 4 to kill them, and the red ones since they are so fast. I love going and raiding the radtowns and fighting off all the zombies there or visiting Zombie hill for some action. Does anyone know what they plan to replace the zombies with? Or will this game just have extremely easy holdyourhand pve content?
I would love for them to actually make AI zombies better, add more classes of them, including zombie animals. They need to be attracted to light/movement/sound and swarm players. New players should be able to avoid them, but it's a survival game, I love zombies. Also Giant zombies that spawn and can destroy walls would be great too.

I had no idea and i'm all for this. :D
This sounds exciting. Thxs for the post

Pretty sure Garry has already said that zombies won't get a straight like-for-like replacement with something else. The change will be more than cosmetic. Also, zombies currently provide more than a simple threat to players - they are also a source of dropped loot. Kind of makes sense that zombies drop loot, but anything non-(formally)-human, not so much. There's also the patrol helicopter coming, and that appears to be heavily armed. Based on comments from the devs, the steady rotor beat of an approaching helo is going to be anything but a welcome sound. Never-the-less, the most dangerous, cunning, ruthless & unpredictable things you will encounter in Rust are the other players. The adrenaline rush of encountering others is what this game is all about - all the other stuff is there soley to facilate to make these encounters a) possible and b) interesting.
I have yet to don't understand why some players should have armed patrol helis when you can't even make 9mm o.O
I had the impression that the patrol helo was part of the environment, and not play controlled. (That said, the renders on the trello card include interior details that would not easily be seen unless you were in it).

MORE OF THIS PLEASE! Actual horror survival is sooooooooooooooooooo much cooler than a few zombies and barking bears.
YES! MORE OF THIS PLEASE! Actual horror survival is sooooooooooooooooooo much cooler than a few zombies and barking bears.
I agree. I sincerely hope that they take the game in that direction.
well i came here just now to ask this very question, i was disappointed zombies were going to be removed, but now im not to worried.
well i came here just now to ask this very question, i was disappointed zombies were going to be removed, but now im not to worried.
Honestly I'd be ok with the Zombies being left in the game as long as they add more to them and if they are made smarter and have more variety. They would fit in well with the mutant chickens and deer given the radiation zones they tend to reside in and around now.
Wouldnt that take out the point of surviving ? since wolfs and bears are not a big of a threat, plus reminding you that zombies got blueprints that you need to craft stuff
I like those chickens :) But I'm really hating how the game is going :(. It's always good only for thugs. For who starts it's already bad and will get way worse (deeply unbalanced. hundreds and hundreds of houses, but all of them have broken doors, way too much C4, hackers and admin abuse out there to be fun for most people who appear fresh in a server). And I hate the new 9mm replacement (why can't both stay?) I don't understand why will they remove guns instead of adding new ones (the more the better and for me it could have a million of them to chose :) ). Keep Cool
(This was in response to Silentnj post) Obviously you didn't read up much, they are going to find out a way to disperse the loot that zombies drop another way, also they are putting other creatures in that will kill you. I think they are thinking the zombie theme has been over played quite a bit. I don't mind the zombies either and think they could be left in. My post was just saying that initially i was really worried about the removal of zombies since i had no idea of what the replacement could be and i liked the idea of AI creatures out to get you, and wolves and bears weren't enough. Since it appears they are replacing zombies with a another "zombie" type creatures with more uniqueness to them, i am not disappointed.
Because modern day weapons just don't make sense with the style of the game.
And a helicopter with a gunner does?

Keep Cool
How many people do you know that could be dropped off on an island and after gathering a few rocks could construct a 9mm let alone an M4, or what ever other new guns you are thinking about. [editline]3rd January 2014[/editline]
And a helicopter with a gunner does?
I'm guessing the helicopter would be an outside source like the air drops, possibly trying to depopulate the island to rid it of all the mutations. I have no idea but i didn't interpret that as players crafting helicopters.
And a helicopter with a gunner does?
Where did I say that it does? I never said I agree with the helicopter, either. And like Dreldan said - we don't even know what the helicopter is going to do yet. It'll likely just be something like the air drops.
And a helicopter with a gunner does?
You'll hear the air drop noise and everyone runs outside and starts running towards the drop, that's followed by the Helo noise and everyone has to run for their lives! Do you risk going for the drop and dying? There is likely to be less competition for the drop if a Helo with a gunner is hovering around.
You'll hear the air drop noise and everyone runs outside and starts running towards the drop, that's followed by the Helo noise and everyone has to run for their lives!
Not once have I heard or seen the heli...
... Read the thread man, its a concept that hasn't even been implemented.
Idk I am honestly just worried that hackers will find a way to spawn helis and just go to spawns and kill all the noobs. We will see what they have planned though.

The devs have already said that the game is going in the direction of more primitive weapons, like the bow, hand cannon, bolt action rifle and the replacement pistol. As we are in Alpha, maybe the devs could be bold and remove the modern stuff now, and see how we get on with the primitive stuff; A bow is crap if the other guy has an M4, but if he has a hand cannon, it becomes an interesting fight.
if i have to fend of a flock of angry mutant chickens i will be a very happy man

If you put a story behind it, it can make perfect sense. Look at the world today, there are places RIGHT now TODAY that get supplies dropped off to them and aid from other countries while they are at war or being persecuted and being attacked by another group of people or country. In today's world we have wars where people are trying to stop it and others are fighting in it. We have Greenpeace who is trying to stop deforestation and global warming while others are working against it. You have the groups of Anti-Whaling and the groups who continue to slaughter whales. You have poachers in Africa killing elephants and lions while groups of people try to stop it. The dolphin slaughters or what ever happens over in japan and the people against that. I think you could come up with a million different scenarios of why there would be one group trying to help the stranded people in a zombie apoc. or mutated area and why there would be another group trying to kill it off. I am not saying any of this is a good idea, it all depends on how it is implemented but sometimes if you get creative you can come up with a reason why something would exist rather then just shutting it down because you're only looking at from one perspective.
They should add traps, like bear traps, that kind of traps, for hunting defending, spike pits. Would make it a lot more fun and add interesting strategy and gameplay imo.
