Here is what I do.
When I see someone that I want to kill I quickly say move and I will kill you, and I start counting down from 5. When they stand still, I say "drop me a portion of what you have gathered".
After this I tell them turn and run away.
This has worked great for me so far, and I've only had to kill one person. I think this is a lot better than killing on sight and encourages communication. You're still being aggressive but not a random murderer.

We've tried doing this couple of times. Sometimes we told people to sing a known song and run around in circles and we'd let them live. While we did only 3 out of 6 did this, rest tried to shoot / smash us with rocks.
