• Solution for griefing.

When i was raided i think thats not a problem. I repair all and then i can start a new try. But the biggest problem is that certain people grief in every raid. They build half block in the entrance etc. Its not very hard to grief another guy. When the enemy use 6C4 and pickaxe through many rooms then its very presumably that they reach the cupboard on small houses. My suggestion: You must destroy the cupboard to build in the area and the cupboard need 2C4 for destroying. How affect this gameplay: when someone hate another guy he will spend this 2C4 but at the most time the raider would think:thats not worth. But this suggestion need some changes in the copboard system. Garry said that multiple cupboards in one cupboard range are bad and i think they block it later. Whats your feedback?
It can work if only who have placed the cupboard is able to build, or the cupboard must have a system of authentication and the owner must authenticate his friends.

An Assign to friend menu like the sleeping bag menu would be needed.
I would make the master cupboard harder then 2 C4. Maybe 3-4 C4. And only usable by the builder.
I would make the master cupboard harder then 2 C4. Maybe 3-4 C4. And only usable by the builder.
And i would make the cupboard not expensive. Starter need a cheap cupboard. The expensive part must be the lock. Th lock must be a high tier item.
Hi.. Got an idea... maybe we could put a codelock on the cupboard so builder and friend can authorise and raider need C4 to destroy it! easy...
I hope garry has a better idea.
There is no perfect solution for griefing. If someone wants to hurt your feeelings in a multiplayer game, have unlimited time on their hands, they can and will do it.
There is no perfect solution for griefing. If someone wants to hurt your feeelings in a multiplayer game, have unlimited time on their hands, they can and will do it.
We cant stop griefing thats right. But we can make griefing harder.
If you make the cupboard difficult to destroy and impossible for a stranger to authenticate on, then people would just spam them. They would just hide 3 cupboards in their cupboard room instead of 1 or make many more cupboards. A ring of cupboards around your base? Why not? No one can authenticate and it would make your base impossible to take over. This is not good gameplay because what you say "prevents griefing" also prevents someone from breaking into your house and making it their own - an activity that should be encouraged in game.

Greifers get reported to me and I build a list. For a price I will travel the world hunting these sub humans and putting them out of all our misery. Problem solved

Here is a good solution for griefing put codelock on cupboard if you autorise with codelock you can upgrade building parts if you autorise without code, you can only place twig twig is easy to destroy after the raid/grief
How much?
Expenses plus lol and the adulation of all gamers everywhere
its now easier to grief now that cupboards have been nerfed
How about a builder foundation instead of cupboard? It's a different color that only the person who placed it.. or people who they authorize... from a menu... like when you give a sleeping bag to someone... can see it.
None of these solutions allow someone to break into a house and take it over - an activity which should be encouraged.
What about just giving all doors building privy, if you know the door code then you have privy, if you want to take the base over you need to destroy all the doors, which would be a part of taking over a building anyway.
Or only the builder can use it.... Problem solved.
It would be nice to see the view of garry on the griefing problem. On Server with Admins is griefing not very common because the Admins can remove it. On official servers is the problem much bigger. In my area was 7 from 10 houses griefed. But i lived near a asshole which used exploits and griefed houses. Maybe i have better luck with my neighbours next time.
Just an idea but "out of reach" has an interesting mechanic. The builder desk allows for upgrades and with each upgrade it affords more protection to the building. What it does is if you are raided and the raiders get to your desk they have a cool down time before they can place their own desk in order to place any walls etc. so as you add upgrades via materials to the desk you get 6 12 24 etc HRS protection. They can raid you and blow your doors off etc take you stuff, but they can't grief your base until the timer counts down. If you don't log I. Every day then upgrade your desk to 48 HRS or longer depending on Your play times. Don't expect to have any doors or loot left but your building will be repairable and still yours.

Griefing would be for example, like in legacy, if any player could just walk to your house, build a stone block in front of your door, and get nothing in return except the satisfaction to have pissed you off. thats griefing. In the current state of the game, you are allowed to build many cubpoards, and to hide them. or just a single one if its hidden well. If the raiders use C4 to break into you house, C4 that they farmed/crafted for hours, find your loot, continue to dig into those 20s honeycombed 1x1 until they find the one with the cupboard, they worked a lot for it. Then they can block the house if they want, because thats a valid raiding tactic. neutralize the enemy to make sure it wont come back at you. Did they block your house ? sure. Did they work for it ? hell yeah. That is not grefing. If you say you dont feel like hiding your cupboard because that would be a wasted 5k stone, then its up to you. but its really cheap to build a few hidden 1x1 all around your base with a cupboard in each one. One of them is the main one, the other ones are decoys. Is the current mechanism of the cupboard perfect ? probably not, facepunch said its temporary. Can someone grief in the current state of the game ? only litteral noobs with less than 5 hours in the game would not protect their cupboard. its the first thing you learn, to protect the cupboard.
If someone finds my main cupboard even when searching for it, I congradulate them, they deserve to do what they want to my base, seriously they could level most of the base and still not find it :P
I think there's is too much complaining about so called griefing in this topic. The devs have their plans for the cupboard and we just gotta play it, in like 2 weeks that discussion might flourish again, when the new cupboard mechanics have been properly examined and some more people find themselves treated badly. There are servers which don't allow griefing by server rules. Better stick with that if you dislike it.

I think when you read my first post your wall of text make no sense. My cupboard is not protected by 1 wall. I said 6C4 and much pickaxes. Do you need 6C4 and tons of pickaxes for one wall?? I have 1400h Rust experience and i can plan very good. The placement of cupboards is one important mechanic. I know that the main cupboard is the most important. AND i dont need suggestions by a guy which cant read a few sentences and understand it. AND its possible to capture the house of the enemy. When you found the main cupboard you need only 2C4 to destroy it and only one cupboard is possible for the cupboard range. Everybody who cant build a 10X10 castle is a noob which have less than 5 hours experience. A guy which work 40h and play 2-3h on a day Rust. Is this guy a noob too because he have not so many time like you. I hope i dont see pathetic guys like you in the real life.
I agree. I can only play a few hours a week or more. Why should I be punished for having a life?
Play something other than rust! There are lots of other survival games with way better communities. People that are not only in it to be the biggest dick head on the server. I have come to realize that this is actually the play style that the developers want to encourage so I am opting out and leaving rust. Realistically I did get my money's worth out of that but at this point I can say I didn't really enjoy it very often. It was usually a rush to get a base built, then the disappointment of having some asshole destroy it or block me into my base. Then Find another server with almost no one on it so as to avoid the dumb cunts only to have no fun as there is no one on the server. The community is poisoned and I am actually glad it is, if these stupid children are here playing rust they won't be elsewhere wrecking those games.

Play on a server with friendly and active Admins. I was never griefed on a community server but Official Server are full of griefer.
My cupboard is not protected by 1 wall. I said 6C4 and much pickaxes.
If raiders come into your home well-equipped with C4, they're going to grief you. That's just how it is. As you said, the raider has to decide whether or not it's worthwhile, and in your case they've apparently decided that griefing is definitely worth it.
I have 1400h Rust experience
Nobody cares.
i can plan very good.
Apparently not if you're getting griefed.
Everybody who cant build a 10X10 castle is a noob I hope i dont see pathetic guys like you in the real life.
Getting mad at opposing viewpoints is the first sign of being wrong. [editline]3rd September 2015[/editline]
I have come to realize that this is actually the play style that the developers want to encourage
It literally is, and they've said so from the beginning. People are free to be dickheads, dweebs, jerks, nice, friendly, KOS, deranged, happy, sad, you name it -- just like in real life. If the people on your favorite server are insufferable, then it's time to find another server.
