Hey guys,
Not sure if this forum is ok for Rust Admin assistance questions?
Trying to get help with banning hackers... I used "banid" STEAMID on a couple tonight and they just came right back in.
Anyone have a solution for this?
ban>kick=Gone
ban>kick=Gone
Here is what I did.
1. I used their nickname and found their SteamID
2. I used "banid STEAMID"
3. I used "kick NICKNAME"
4. They came back 1 second later and laughed at me and said they were unbannable
5. I did the whole thing multiple times. They kept coming back.
So I tried banning SteamID's, nicknames, both... kicking multiple times... each time they came back.
Finally I sat there just kicking them over and over until they stopped trying.
Were there steam IDs the same when they were rejoining, or did they change?

I reviewed the bans.cfg file to check that and they were the exact same steam ID's
In other words, no NEW ID's were added after BANIDing them 3 and 4 times.
PS I am sure you know, but the "banlist.cfg" does not update, and you have to check the "bans.cfg"

Wow. That seems pretty serious then if we can't properly bank people :O. Thanks for sharing.

So basically we just have to put Rust down until the dev team gets serious about fixing this stuff and giving us good tools.
These guys came on my server, didn't try to hide it... cut a swath through dozens of houses destroying and killing everything... I have no admin tools to defend against it.
Even in Alpha that's a pretty sad state of affairs. Hope Gary is paying attention somewhat.
It happened to my clan server today we decided that we will close the server when the rent time end, the hosters need to put some pressure on the devs because both of then will loose a lot of money if something wont be done soon.

So far we've been lucky, haven't really seen any hacks on any of the com servers we play on. But if they did come up, I guess I'd just find another server and remind myself that "alpha" is anything but "perfect, finished product".
get a whitelisted server.
I just want to say i am not playing this game till the hacking problem is solved. Every time an innocent is killed by a hacker they turn into a hacker to retaliate. its getting worse in North America 3 me and my friends cant even make a base without someone looking threw the wall, walking threw it,or even blowing it up with duped c4. When we try to kill them they just snap to us and instant head shot. These hackers are destroying a VERY great game. I hope someone fixes this soon.

It's almost as if this is alpha software and thus a work in progress or something.

It should be fixed.
This whole "business model" where you can sell a product and services, all it Alpha, and have no accountability whatsoever to your customers is a load of horsecrap.
It needs to end.

Totally. I'm sure it will be, hence the "work in progress" part.
Apparrantly there was a recent wave of VAC Bans, as well as a brand new 'service' that gives you noclip and probably the inability of getting kicked. So VAC may respond faster then Garry, though I hope thats not the case.
It's baffling to me that the MOD community can reverse engineer this thing, and provide admin tools we've been asking for, like control of drop rates, server restart timers, custom starting gear, etc etc, faster than Garry and his team that made the thing can.
Honestly... there is just no business like the game business... LOL
Just to point out the original problem. Did you ban players by their STEAMID or STEAMID64?
STEAMID looks something like this: STEAM_0:1:263XXXXX
STEAMID64 looks like this: 765611980129XXXXX
Currently only baning with STEAMID64 should be working and i've banned several people and it has worked.
you need to ban them with their steamid64. you can get to this by using the steamid converter. I have had events where i had to ban and they kept coming back in. With the steamid converter you can get their steamid64 and ban them permanently. I use the external control panel to ban people.

how is this an issue? if you don't want an alpha product, don't buy an alpha product.
