this is something that i expect the developers will tinker and adjust extensively over the course of alpha and beta, so i'd like to see what other players think about it too. how difficult should building houses be? 100+ player servers are currently heavily clogged with empty buildings. is this because building is too easy, or decay isn't doing its job right? do you think the decay mechanic works fine now, or should it be sped up? should the mechanic itself be changed completely? and of course, there's destruction. in the game's current state there are 2 factors affecting whether or not a building gets destroyed: are there any wooden doors or other furniture that can be destroyed without explosives? if so, the house is extremely unsafe and will be very quickly broken into and looted. if not, it boils down to the pillager weighing how much loot they think is in the house VS how many explosives will be required to get to the "core" of the house where the loot is most likely hidden, generally in the center of a tall tower. should values for explosive destruction of each building material be reworked? this might open up new possibilities for efficient "vault" designs other than towers. should other tools have the ability to destroy certain materials? e.g. shotgun blasts causing low damage to wood walls, or increasing the amount of damage grenades do to buildings to make them worth using on them. what do you think?
Empty buildings cos its too easy to raid imo. Cant remember a day when I havnt been raided at least twice.
Imho decay should be pretty quick in order to get rid of all the abandoned constructions around the map, they'll eventually cause lag. However, I think people should somehow be able to prevent decay in advance somehow, maybe by spending resources on a construction over time before it decays to make it hold longer. This way abandoned shacks will be gone pretty quickly but more permanent bases can hold for much longer depending on how much resources someone has spent on it.
currently the reason why I am seeing a bunch of abandoned buildings is because they are too damn easy to raid currently. The over abundance of explosives, the frail nature of wooden walls, the rarity of metal structure BP and/or drops of them are the primary culprits. Building decay to my understanding comes from not opening your door to your structure over time. Otherwise it resets the decay timer so to speak.
Moving to the very top of your building resets decay time for everything below apparently. Cept spikes ofc. Need to memd them daily.
