• Graphics Problem: Constant Freezing

I just purchased a new Lenovo Ideapad. It has two SLI' GeForce GT 750Ms. I have been able to run everything great until Rust. Every 20 seconds or so, usually less, the game will freeze for a couple seconds. This is a big problem in rust especially when trying to kill animals or fight other players. I have tried updating the drivers, disabling SLI, using fastest game settings, nothing works. This problem is killing me as it makes rust un playable. If anyone can help fix this problem I would greatly appreciate it.
Are you playing in full-screen mode or windowed mode? I've found that when playing in full-screen, the game will crash substantially more (I'm always alt-tab'ing with my dual monitor set-up). When I play in windowed mode, I don't have any issues.
Do you have RealTek audio? If yes, are you using the jacks/internal speakers for the RealTek or do you have a USB headset/etc.?
@ Poppinheads; I've played in both and its the same. @ elixwhitetail; Yes there is realtek audio manager. I have a headset that I use, but its not USB. standard 2 plug mic and headphones set up.
:D game has spikes when you are entering area with bases. so when game loads those bases game freezes for a second. thats normal :D find another server with less bases if you want less lags.

It happens on any server, and in any location. Just farming an ore node will cause it. moving around can cause it. fighting animals away from any base anwhere will cause it.

I want you to uninstall the RealTek sound drivers in Device Manager. Reboot, then try Rust. You won't have sound, but we want to see if the near-constant freezes keep happening. Obviously, you will want to reinstall the drivers when you're done; if Windows can't do it automatically when you tell Device Manager to scan for hardware, Lenovo's support page should have the download if you go there and enter in your laptop's model in whatever they've got. (I don't own a Lenovo laptop so I'm not familiar, but all major manufacturers' driver download pages are broadly the same.)

I have no issues with realtek and rust it seems

Disable it and try Rust. Windows 8 might also be trying to be really helpful by reinstalling it automatically, which makes life difficult. If disabling the sound doesn't work, keep it disabled and then uninstall it, and hopefully this will tell Win8 that we don't want it there for now.

I'm not seeing any freezing in game now. What's next?
There's no solution atm. Just wait and hope it gets fixed in a future update :(
Well, now you have a decision to make, because the permanent fix is something between RealTek drivers in general and Rust, not your computer and Rust. You can... 1) Live with the freezing in Rust until the problem's fixed 2) Disable sound whenever you play Rust, but now you have no sound and this is a pain in the ass anyway 3) Use a USB headset with your laptop and leave the RealTek audio disabled. USB headsets are their own sound devices, in effect their own "soundcard", so they will provide audio even with RealTek disabled or fully uninstalled, bypassing the conflicts between it and Rust. These are not optimal solutions, I grant you, but this is a known problem that often (but doesn't always) happens with Rust. It happens on machines with tons of horsepower, and ones that can barely scrape past Rust's minimum requirements.
well, that is so frustrating. Guess i'll have to go find a usb headset. Thank you so much for your time and help elixwhitetail. I really greatly appreciate you taking time out of your day to help me.

You've been one of the easier and nicer people that I've tried to help with this problem, and it's made the whole process go far faster as a result. Please explore the rest of the Facepunch forums, outside of the Rust section, because you're the kind of person we like having around.
You may not have to buy an entire headset. They sell USB dongles that can support mic and headphone jacks for like $20. It ain't pretty but at least you will have something: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812186035
i also have a lenovo laptop that has a 745m nvidia and i have the same problem it makes pvp impossible sometimes
