• Internet is continually dragging over time when playing Rust

There are on average about 4 people in my house playing Rust and everytime we do, after some time the game gradually begins to bomb the bandwidth. Sometimes I simply can't update the server list and thats when it begins almost as if the game is gradually requesting information but I wouldn't know. Other times it just over time gets worse, it seems like the most common starting point for when my internet begins to slow involves updating the server list. Other friends I play with who aren't playing in my home have reported similar issues, especially when the DDOS attacks were being dealt with less but still occasionally locking up the update list altogether. I usually have to resort to restarting my computer after playing the game to ensure the rest of the people in my house using the internet for other purposes are not being lagged. The issue occurs only after jumping in game. Is anyone else finding similar issues?
Haven't had any issues like that... You sure your Internet isn't being throttled by your ISP?
What you are explaining doesnt sound like a Rust problem at all. It sounds like its a bandwith problem to me. The only way to fix this would be to switch your ISP.
I dunno, I'm getting 56mbps download and about 6 mbps upload consistently. This seems strangely weird as I'm watching the download and upload rates of the computers at home that had just played the game and i'm seeing major spikes in uploading and downloading only after playing the game.
Your download speed wouldnt be an issue, your ping would. Whats your ping?
19ms...
It's happening to me too, and to make things even worse I'm looking at the traffic inbound and out on my router. This game uses a lot of ports according to the router, and I've got a business grade router I paid handsomely for. On top of that I've got excellent download speed but the minute I get disconnected from a server, or the server list hangs up and stops bringing back any servers some kind of issue arises with it, and either my router restarts itself or I stay without a connection. Even stranger is that every once in a while it'll happen while I'm playing the game. It's almost like it just starts bombing those ports with a megaload of data out of nowhere. Looks to me like the game runs on ports that are also well known and reserved ports for many services other than the game's. I would suggest someone look into this. Edit: There is no malicious software running on my machine. Tested the problem on multiple computers in my household, and my internet speed is not being throttled in some kind of way either as it maintains a steady 55 - 57 mbps download and 5 mbps upload. No issues with my internet when I stop playing the game for a few days, it only happens when I start playing the game for a little while or get disconnected from the game in some way shape or form whether it be searching for server lists, or playing on a server.
Then honestly I dont know. It may be an in-game problem. If it were only you I would say change your server location in your Steam settings but its happening to multiple people on your internet, correct?
Yeah, and a couple of buddies in a different part of town. I'll try and test and see if it continues in similar conditions. thanks for the tips.
