Just go on a server with medium population once during off hours, when the pop is even lower, hang around small radtown until you get some weapons and armor, then hide in a hole , disconnect, and come back when the server has more people and play bandit. Anyone plays like this? I hate having to worry about my base and my stuff every time I log off.
that is how I play
the only reason I craft and build bases is because there is very little u can do in the game
and because you need furnace and workbench to build basic guns
if crafting speed was faster without workbench I would probably just gather resources and build stuff on the go
I normally place around 2-3 sleeping bags around rad towns just in case I get bored of weapon crafting

most servers you can find partially decayed bases with furnaces and workbenches. If you have time to log on during off hours for just half hour, you can use those to do your crafting.
I rush a 1x1 base w/ metal door and then play bandit. Usually don't get messed with if you hide it well. Most dudes w/ c4 will bypass a 1x1.. usually put it near big rad so I can grabs loots.. =) doesn't hurt as much losing a gun if all you did was open a crate to get it
