So ATM most RUST servers out there are a mess as there is a shack or base always within a 15 meter proximity. I'm always coming across empty shacks and I know there's a decay system in place but some servers especially the official ones are littered with buildings...and bodies. This is why I think caves should be added as people can live in them and wall off their territory. Not only this but ores could be obtained this way such as sulphur and metal. Whole cave systems could be added to the map adding a whole new layer to the survival and horrible monsters inside of them. Let me know what you think and whether this could be added and work well with RUSTs survival mechanics.
Problem: One guy places down 100 meters worth of walls and denies access to the caverns. Anyone inside is trapped, and unless you wait 4 days for it to decay, or get C4 you are screwed.
I would like to see them try to implement it. Maybe add both lengthy cave systems and small notches in mountains with 2 or so rock nodes and a small area to base in. It would add more stuff to Mountains and reduce pressure from the strained resource rich areas.

Yes but how about restricting building to certain parts of the caves like the entrance of a branching off dead end. I know it would be very hard adding caves but with alot of fine tuning it could work. Plus it moves the deadly bandit clans deep into caves where they are harder to raid and off the surface where noobs spawn.

I wouldn't mind, but then there are people that will not have any restrictions placed upon them, where they build and such. I guess make the ceilings crouch ceilings so that buildings don't fit.
After all, there must be a disadvantage.

Well the logic is moving the danger and clutter on the server elsewhere I see where you are coming form regarding the freedom players have but as I said a bit of tweaking here and there and now RUST has got more depth to it!
Caves, Mines and this kind of stuff would be awesome. And its totaly easy to avoid buildings near the entrace. Just programm a zone of no Sheltern / Foundation placement. (bad english :/)
This should also be done to the industrial spawns! :D

I like the idea of mines in towns it could link up to cave systems and maybe serving as a method of fast travel! PS your English is fine.

Great idea, we need caves so we will be able to get resources easier but the ores in caves will not spawn, the map will be huge and everything in the world is there and once it's gone it's gone. Unless there is a server restart. Maybe add some new creatures in these dark scary caves that will make you not just be able to venture in with no type of armor and a rock.
I think it's a great idea to add caves and make ore nodes in them here and there, with random bear/other creature spawns inside.

yes well i don't know what they are doing with monsters ATM but i would like it if caves where a vital part of getting better gear like getting a certain metal to make an awesome gun! Taking risks to get better stuff.
No restrictions, just make it that people may control it or not.
Adding caves would probably be difficult in all sorts of ways, but I feel this game would benefit from them immensely.
Bandit caves? Hell yes.
I would love to see caves added to the map, maybe not one big cave, but many small ones.

I agree with this plan. Also the issue of placing down buildings cutting off access to the system. I think the system should have branches that aren't in view of the nodes so that people cant just build a heavy metal fort down there and snipe anyone trying to mine. On the other hand they still are able to live down there and stay near by. Obviously the other solution is adding resource node and animal spawning on every part of the map including the other side of mount everust so it isn't as cluttered building wise. I love the thrill of 200-256 people on a server but it can also kill playing if everyone logged in all live near each other.

That's why I want caves it'll move the clutter and deadly bandit clans elsewhere as what's better wasting ammo on killing noobs or getting the resources for a diamond m4? All it needs is fine tuning.
