Way to many servers.. - Rust

Recently rust has started to let people rent servers and to be fair that's great for garry but the thing is that myself I like the more populated servers and when you see around 20 servers with 30 players it just makes the game boring i wish it could go back to just EU1 and US1 but i understand the ping issues but it would be great to just have 1 server of each so like AU1 UK1 EU1 US1 maybe an East and west coast 1 aswell that's just the way I see it:/

A few more servers than just one per location, but don't let people rent them out. It's going to, and already is, ruining the experience.

I agree....at peak time the highest server hits maybe 80? now its around 50 or so... way too many servers now.

Do we need less server or more players? You guys really are not forward thinking.

At a later date when the population actually increases should private servers be allowed I think. I don't think this is the right time. Then again, it's your game, do as you wish, I'll still keep playing.

I don't see it as a problem. You guys complained when there were only a few servers, now you're complaining that there's too many. These things balance themselves out. If you want to join a server with a lot of players - then do that. If you want to join a server with few players - then do that. No-one is taking that choice away from you.

So it's not a matter of picking a higher populated server since none of them are really populated, compared to before when each was at 150+. Now that is where all the actions at. I love gathering resources for my base and being scared of people jumping out at me, having to look around me all the time, staying on my feet and alert. Now not so much...I play on one screen and have the series rome playing on my second screen without worrying about predators leaping from rocks trying to kill me lol. Anyhow, with time hopefully.

Why does everybody say there is way too many servers, they all say that we need 60+ players on a server to have fun, NO i prefer the servers with a max population of 30 and no more, Because it gives me a chance to actually play the game and build a house in PVP, i still run into other players when i play on servers with 10 people and i recon its more fun because i can actually have a go at pvp instead of being killed by an experienced PVP'r as i prefer the PVE servers but there seems to be none of them anymore. I would think if people want to play on a server with a large population then do exactly that, stop complaining about too many servers because there is always a few servers when i go to play that have a population of over 60 players on them so why dont u guys that want the large populations go on those servers?? or is it because u dont like being with all the other experienced pvp'rs because u get killed and dont have a noob thats runnin around naked to kill.

They obviously don't.[/QUOTE] That's not how it works...obviously when people rent new servers and more pop up, their group will join that server, then when wipes happen people tend to try different servers which is what happens, I get that. I'm not sure how the community thinks about it since not many have said anything in this thread, I'd like more input from others in the community. My home server that I play on now has around 30, compared to before when it was at 100+. As of this moment I'm gather resources, without a care in the world, standing in the middle of a common resource field.

with all due respect garry, we need the number of servers to equal the current number of players. not add way to many and say 'in the future we will have more players' i know of over 20 people who have quit the game because it has suddenly become very boring. myself included. and thats just out of my friends. the extra servers are causing the current population to be spread out way to thin, and is also resulting in people abandoning the game completely. its ok to say join one with high population .... but not when such a thing doesn't exist anymore open the game up for sales on steam or reduce the number of servers until there are enough players to warrant such an extreme amount. until then people are quitting the game because its gone from the most exciting game you can play to one of the most boring. Honestly ... i pre-ordered BF4 .... until yesterday I hadn't ever launched it because of how exciting rust was to play .... as of yesterday there was such little amount of action to be found that I found myself fighting against my own friends to get some combat going, and then we all quit because of the boredom. Now for the first time I've started playing BF4. Please realize that you had such awesome excitement when the servers were less, that people were opting to play this game instead of a triple A game they had preordered. and now its become the most boring game they own. heck i find myself looking forward to the new 7 days to die update now, where as i never thought I would play it again. Rust is boring if all you can do is gather resources and craft buildings etc. :( Anyways its your game to run how you want, but please be aware that with low populations this game is very boring to all the people who enjoy the PVP and raiding aspects of the game, heck even the supply drops are a non-event now ... theres nobody at them to contest it :(

I really think you're wrong. People aren't joining empty servers just because they're there. If there were 1,000 servers and 1,000 players.. they wouldn't all have 1 person on each server. People play where they want to. More servers gives people that choice. We're not going to remove that choice. People quitting because they think it's boring isn't going to be fixed by only having 4 servers.

I won't be quitting by the way, incase that last statement was towards me, love the game and I'll keep playing. I'm optimistic about the full release either way!

Wow so reading some more of these new posts, it seems that most of the people that are upset over the servers are the PVP players and now they say the game is boring, amazing isnt it that all they want is to PVP other players to have their Fun, well havent they ever thaught of how us PVE players have fun, well i'll tell u PVP players, its simple, we like to actually play the GAME and not just PVP every naked man we see, we are the kind of player that wants to build a house while trying not to die from the wildlife and zombies etc while working together with other players as a real community or as Neighbours, that doesn't mean we dont PVP at all, it means were the kind of player to play the game and if someone is annoying us or attacks us at our home of course were going to PVP them, probably my best mate IRL that would do it to me and i'd happily chase his naked ass around wasting my ammo tryin to kill him, because its FUN thats why, I just dont understand how most people cant see that the game is more than just pvp.

I don't PVP or KOS, I'm more of a gatherer, to expand my massive base. Without PVPers and watching your back, where's the fun? I don't understand your post, you said us "PVE players..." how does this pertain to you if you solely want to play PVE? This is NOT about me being bored of not having enough naked men to kill, this is NOT my game style, I'm merely pointing out the lack of action and threat there is at this point, with the population being so dispersed and low.

The problem right now is that there are not enough players to really utilize the servers to their full extent. This is mainly because there are a LIMITED amount of keys to be sold each hour. Once that restriction is lifted and people can freely buy the game on the website/steam, you'll see that the demand for servers will increase. It's simple economics; a week ago there was a limited supply of servers and a high demand from players - now it's the inverse. As Garry says, don't join a sever with 20 people if you want to join one with loads of people. Keep something in mind, these rented servers are fickle in the sense that if the owners stop paying, the server will be gone as well as your progress on it. The servers kept by the developers are the ones that have a longer outlook on their lifespan due to, well, being from the developers themselves.

I think we need more players as garry said ^

If playercounts are balancing out at ~30 that's probably because most people enjoy playing with ~30 players on, dude. I'm sorry you and your friends can't join some clusterfuck server and start slaughtering newbies :(

30 players really isn't enough. Maybe during off-peak in the morning or something, but for a server to be active you need at least 75 during peak. When surviving is too easy, the game gets boring quick.

To me I see 50 ppl on a server a good amount of players thinking of the map size atm, you can get from the coast to rad town in a min or less or from 1 corner to the other in a couple mins, so having 50 ppl is pretty decent atm to me.. But thats just me I guess..

Just finished playing on 'MCM US2 PVE' when I joined that server, there was 90+ online, it was the only server at that time with so many players, good to see people like to play PVE :)

What's to say that the player count won't shoot up when the game releases? Look at it how every other server based game goes. You see large playercounts and small playercounts on many different servers, and there's usually always one to cater to your preference. Just wait until release if the current playercounts don't satisfy you. I mean I don't see why you would backtrack and keep it limited to Facepunch hosted servers. That's just not something you do in the long run. It doesn't work, even if you think it's flawed. Limiting servers just to raise early player counts is what's flawed.

With the number of servers I would be happy to see the amount of key sold per hour increase, it was fun how there was 200 players per server 3-4 months ago.
