The Linux client on these specs:
Ubuntu 13.04 64-bit
NVIDIA GeForce gtx 550
4G RAM
200G SATA 2 HDD
launched from steam. Tried the no-beta version and the dev branch version. Same results.
Has an issue where it refuses to start up. Well, more accurately stated, it just hangs there at the grey screen with the facepunch logo forever. I left it sitting there for over an hour and nothing.
Help me Garry-wan-kenobi! You're my only hope!
Update: Well, now it gets to main menu and it can't connect to a server. It says "connecting" for about 1 second before returning to the menu. It's improvement!
Edit: Nope! That was with wine. The native client now gets stuck at a black background with the facepunch logo on it instead of a grey background with the facepunch logo on it. :/
Are you sure there is even a linux client out yet?

Yes. It downloads perfectly fine and runs great up the the point where it's supposed to do something other than freeze at the loading screen. And then I opened up my steam the uses wine and everything works great on it up to the point where it's supposed to connect to a server.
Yes but that doesn't mean there is a linux version out. Mac version wasn't out but you could download it and launch it until it just came up with facepunch grey screen.

Ahhh... So it's not a bug, it's just a placeholder *sadface*
Yes it's out for linux if you would read the playrust.com/buy thing it says Also works on OSX and Linux...
It's currently running fine on Windows and Mac. WE ARE WORKING ON a Linux client too!
That was taken directly from their site and "WE ARE WORKING ON" was made all-caps for emphasis. I had hoped that "We are working on" meant "We have a buggy but playable version for", but it would appear to mean "We are working on making one" I can DOWNLOAD it, but it doesn't get to the menu. Likely it's only there because they wanted to get the compilation set up correctly for when they do add features.
mac is down too right now idk if its related
I would assume mac has an issue, because when I run it on mac, it goes all freaky looking, whereas on linux it just refuses to progress further. Plus Garry has it posted here that mac's not working. Nothing about Linux, which leads me back to the assumption that Linux is just there so that when the have it working all they have to do is push code to the compilation server.
