• Make military-grade guns/ammo more rare, add blackpowder weapons

I think all military-grade weapons should be made more expensive and the ammo more costly to craft, since bandits can basically fort up on resource nodes right now and farm them for ammo 24/7. This would help make the server feel a little more rustic. Maybe add blackpowder-based weapons like muzzle-loaded rifles, shotguns, muskets, etc. as well, very high single-shot damage but longer reload times and less accuracy. I think that'd be neat.
Agreed, it's a little immersion breaking to go from banging rocks together to shotgunning people down in a few short hours. The Pipe Shotgun and Handcannon aren't even that bad and are a lot of fun to use. Low tech and high damage weapons like crude mines would also be a lot of fun, and not unrealistic to include some time down the road. However, making single shot weapons more prevalent would require more cut downs on server lag I feel. [Which isn't to say that great leaps haven't been made on that front already.]
I support this thread. I expected to be making muskets and shit, but instead I can just run to a town(radtowns should be much harsher and a bigger threat) and have an m4 or blueprint in no time. I never even craft the homemade weapons because I can get an m4 so easily that it's not worth it.
they will eventually make it harder
I would love it if there was no military weapons and just caveman type shit. Right now no one really has guns on the server and its way more fun fighting with bows and single shot weapons.
If we had more single shot weaponry, the game would basically become PIRATES: RUST SURVIVAL. People'd carry like 6 guns on their hotbar and shoot really quickly. Which would be badass. If they add a sword too? Damn, they win game of the year.
All that needs to be done is that "modern weapons" take a fuck-ton of parts to craft, and a lot of stuff to maintain. Anatomy of the Gun Machine Pistols for Rust

In reality any quality firearm will last for fucking ever as long as it's fairly clean and kept oiled
You gotta remember that Rust is about SHTF. Quality Firearms are rare and in-between, and most likely their over complicated parts have broken down over time.

Keep it sweet and simple.
Do it like fallout or far cry 2 where as the gun degrades it jams and decreases in power till it breaks. And it should never affect the power of the cartridge

They would obvisiously degrade fast and jam more.
There doesn't need to do tons of factors like jamming and stuff just yet. What needs to happen is the higher-grade firearms need way more metal to craft. Keep the metal prices as they are right now, but make things like shotguns and M4s require "High Quality Metal". 1 High Quality Metal = 3 Low Quality Metal. You'd need 10 High Quality Metal to make M4s and Shotguns, 30 low-quality metal, or 450 metal fragments. This would make modern weaponry MUCH rarer, and it would also mean that bandits couldn't just keep rushing out of huge forts, dying, but having a stash of dozens of high-quality weapons to go back and choose. And since single-shot weapons would be the most common, the players who do manage to make M4s, Shotguns, etc. would be far more deadly, albeit far more rare.
whatever is done I hope it is nothing any of you have said so far.
nah , they need to gate modern weapons behind higher crafting walls, like new crafting tables the blue print of which is rare.
nah , they need to gate modern weapons behind higher crafting walls, like new crafting tables the blue print of which is rare.
Agreed. Making multi-level crafting tables also seems good. Not sure how one makes an M4 carbine on a wooden table with a stonecrafting system on it.
As of right now it's really weird every player is a master gunsmith, medic, animal tanner/skinner and furnace operator. With the crude tech(like stones) available, I don't even know how the player is able to make a functioning M4, let alone make it look sleek and shiny and all that. I'm in full support of more crude technology, like swords, crossbows, slingshots, etc and not craftable M4's and .50 caliber sniper rifles.
everything is way too easy to acquire in this game, imo low the crafting times but increase the difficulty to get weapons parts ammo etc. make bows/melee the staple weapon

That's only 375 metal fragments. They should cost more like 3000 metal fragments, where losing an m4 pains even an established player.

It would also help prevent the Cave Man Massacre that happens on basically every server right now... a lot easier to run away from a bow or a dude with a sword. Also, it would probably cut down on the pure KoS mentality without diminishing a player's ability to choose the KoS life. You have this sweet gun. Great. You CAN go kill other players all the time, but what happens if you die and lose that extraordinarily expensive M4?... Also, it would encourage faction wars. You know when you DO bring that expensive M4? When you're raiding an enemy faction's base. But it's not worth risking it just to pop some caveman heads and get their 20 wood and 6 chicken.
