Are we getting a ban for turning up our gamma? I'm using a program to do it for me & it's the same as turning your gamma up in your control panel settings btw. It's not a "lighthack" or whatever.
Nobody is getting banned for turning up the gamma setting on their video card or monitor just fyi. Lighthack bans are from people fucking with dll files with hacks that attach lightobjects to themselves.
Oh, I see. I was really worried to play on a server with CheatPunch before. Thanks for this Information.

This is a light hack, captured by Cheatpunch.
Ever seen gamma do that? That's a client-side light source on the player via client injection.

Not really sure which bit I'm meant to be looking at here. Can you highlight it?
... its night on that picture ...
The player is ''shining'' with a lightsource that only he himself can see. I.E a hack where you have a ''torch'' that only you can see... and you can shoot while wielding it...

This isn't my screenshot, but to me, nighttime in Rust without a torch in my right hand looks like this.
Not totally completely black, but it's all about filtering the sky from the silhouettes of terrain.
Compare the two. Now can you tell how incriminating and hilariously obvious that light hack is?
Honestly why risk ? just dont download any of those "gamma tools ". Its not worth the risk and to be fair 99% of those tools are not legit and will for sure get you banned.

Is postal a good enough authority for you?

I clearly said "gamma tools" and i said 99% not 100%. By gamma tools i mean those "rust gamma tools". I though i was clear enough. My bad.
Not talking about OP in particular but just saying its not worth the risk downloading those !rust tools! that are out there.

Obviously as others said, you'd only get banned for light hack in game, not for changing your monitor/card settings.
However, gamma boosting is still cheating (giving yourself an unfair advantage by getting around how it was intended) and I wish they would at least black-out during the 2 minutes of perfect dark in the game. Meaning, without torch, your screen would actually show black for those 2 minutes. Boosting gamma would still only show a washed out screen because it's not displaying anything through the dark.
Wouldn't fix everything like semi-dark times, but it would be a start. Someone shouldn't get shot in perfect dark because they can see you when they shouldn't be able to.
This also opens up great possibilities (besides fairplay) for crafting dark items, such as night vision goggles.

Last I heard, and I could be wrong, they were working on basically that: a sub, visible fog over everything "full dark" in the scene. That way, if someone cranks their gamma, the fog suddenly pops into visible brightness values and becomes an obnoxious featureless void, obscuring all details.
Apparently getting a computer to recognize what is and is not visible in the dark the way we can look around and go, "yup, can't see shit over there" in an efficient way for arbitrary 3D night scenes isn't as easy as you'd think.

Yeah that makes sense. I had read about the "fog", it just seemed more complicated than it needed to be ("why not just wash out instead"). But it makes more sense now. Thanks!
