Old Rust players not being able to play togther on new severs
13 replies, posted
Hey,
I was in a group that was playing rust when it was just the 1 us server on the website client. We had people from
all over America, Australia, Europe and some guys from Israel. Ever since we decided to start playing again and recently tried to play on the steam client
no one has been able to play with each other which sucks.
I just wanna know whats the best approach for playing all together again? Putting in for our own server? or are they bringing back the old main servers?
Just try to get on the same version? Are some of your friends on the dev branch and some ain't?
I am 1 of those members in his group. We are all on the dev branch.
Seems like the servers dont reach far enough for us to play with eachother on 1 server anymore.
And that's weird cause we used to play on 1 server without any problems.
There shouldn't be any problems here unless someone is using dev branch and someone else isn't, and you guys have your server browser set up weird (one person has modded selected, another has history selected etc)
what you could do is when one person connects, press F1 to get the IP:Port of the server in the console and tell your friends to type net.connect ip:port

All of us connecting to the same server is not the problem.
The problem is that we cant find a server where we all have no FPS lag and no delay.
I'm not really sure exactly what you mean, if you're saying you need help because the game is running slow on some peoples computers there are various options scattered around the forums for improving your fps.. (grass.on = false, -force dx9 levels etc) I'm not sure what you mean by 'delay'
We've all played on the old US server like 2 months ago without any problems. It's not about the game running slow.
I quess the delay is because of the high ping. On high ping servers, when you chop down a tree, you get the wood 1-2 seconds after the 'chop'. On low ping servers you get it instantly. Or if you open a chest on a high ping server, it will take 1-2 seconds. on low ping servers it opens instanly.
Also, on high ping servers other players move stuttering instead of the smooth walking animation.
When i find a server with like 20-30 ping, the others in my team have like 300-400 ping. 100-150+ ping is already really annoying when playing the game as much as we do.
im a european playing on a us server and i have 90 ping, can play perfect.
You guys need to search a server where all your people have +/- 80-120 ping, that should be perfectly doable to play.
The ping will always be higher for the person who lives the furthest from the serverlocation, nothing to do about that !
I miss the times when there was only 1 server with 500 players, big clans knew where eachother lived at, had big fights.. Now its pretty much 100 servers with 0-50 players, fights between 2 small clans, killing just eachother all the time. In my opinion there should be just 1 server in europe, north america, oceania etc.
Hopefully after about [the date that the servers started being sold wide open + 1 month + a few days], the people (like me) who jumped in assuming there would be a limited number available will fall off, not wanting to pay another monthly fee for a mostly empty server, and the number of servers will decrease.

I think he's talking about internet lag, and it's true. Old main servers had great connection even if they were on Australia or US or EU, it didn't matter. But now with the hosting companies and stuff an EU server gives me like 8 second delay for changing items, animals moving, players teleport running, etc..
One or two main servers would be the best, many servers takes away the main aspect of rust and converts it in more like a minigame where you just play on one server for mostly a week :/
Back to the OP,
You mentioned you all played on one of the official FacePunch servers back in the day or Idealhostings servers? Where was this server located? UK? Europe? With that information look for servers with the correct country code in the server name such as UK, EU, AUS, US.
Or do a bit of geography between you.. find out what country you all live in and found a 'middle' ground. You can then try and find a server hosted there are chip in to get your own hosted their.
Either way.. I'm not sure this is an issue with the game/servers. This is more of an issue of where you all live.
I wish you all good luck with finding the right help. It would suck not to play all together.
Posted to wrong thread.

It was on the official Facepunch servers back in the day. You could choose between EU or US. We were in the US server.
The US server was so good. We had like no lag and everyone had low ping.
All the servers in US are shit right now. All of them have high ping for us and are unplayable, not like back in the day with the official facepunch server.
When we do a bit of geography, we would need a server in Afghanistan or Pakistan. Gonna be hard to find a server there :D
I think it is an issue. How come we could play fine on the facepunch servers but the ideal hostings servers are shitty now?
