I just decided to give the experimental branch a try, and see how it is, and it starts up fine. However, when I open the server browser, no servers come up. I tried reinstalling, verifying, etc, and nothing so far has worked.
Servers down it seems. Try again tomorrow :/

These things are related in what way?
I think OP is concerned with the reliability of the server list browser in the first place. I am too, even the old browser is hit and miss and sometimes very slow.
When no server is showing you can try to press F1 and type in
client.connect 54.228.173.131:29015
but actually it seems like the server is really off.
