I have an Idea about the character names you have.
Maybe instead of having a Steam name you can change when you want,
there would be randomly generated names everyone would have, I don't really think this would be a hard task for the devs
And would be a better gameplay mechanic in my opinion.
Since then, every time you die, your name would change, and the friends you had will no longer know it's really you ( Unless they know you out of rust. )
Think about it.
If you know another person, only in-game and not any other way. You become friends with him, he dies and/or you die, then you will no longer know who he is, and if someone claims to be him, you will never really know.
I think this would be a great addition to the game as it just really easy at the moment

It would get really annoying, and you won't know who is friendly and who is not. I say no to this.

That' the whole point of this, you wouldn't know who is who.
Since I see dying as starting a new life, so why not have a new name when you have a new life?
Oh comeon... People...
If you take the time to vote, you can atleast reply and tell why, that is how suggestions work.
And the last time checked "Disagree" is when you do not agree with the other person
And dumb is when... well... the poster is dumb...
:/
This would be a bad idea, people would not be able to know if they could trust you after you died because your name would change, and it would block you from entering your door you placed with the characters name that is built with it. You think we are not being logic, but this is the best we can do for an idea that has no point. It would be cool if we could make our own game name, or register on the rust website and login using it.

Im not talking about restricting access to doors. ( Helk was talking about adding a code system, so everyone who knows the doors could open the door anyway )
But that's the point of making people afraid.
I would like to see the game more hardcore and this looks like a way to achieve that.
Ofcourse you can always use Steam chat or skype to talk to people, and you would know they are friendly. But what about those who aren't in chat/talking with you, you wouldn't know who they are. So that adds a major risk of getting attacked...
Horrible idea. how are you supposed to build a repuation on a server. holding grudges and vendettas would be removed from the game if you spawned with a new name when you die.
etc etc.
if you wanted a random name every time you die just change it in steam.
also " you would never know" he could just tell you what his name used to be.

Nice argument, but as I said, I think of dying as starting a new life.
So well. if you have a gruge on someone, he dies, noone hears of him anymore so he is dead, he then has a new name, if he fucks it up again, he dieas again. And so on.
Noone will change their names on steam just cause they died in ruast, that's why I offered this suggestion.
Well, if someone tells you their previous name, how would you know it's them? ( Unless they contact you on steam or any other way except rust ingame chat )
Here's the issue: there is immersive gameplay, then there is over-the-top immersion. This is over-the-top. It has no practical usage to it besides causing confusion, just trust me.

Well, people always have different opinions...
So I guess the majority wouldn't want something like this.
That's the thing... There is a difference between saying " Fuck you, your idea sucks * Rated with a box * "
And to reply with some criticism, even if it is very un-constructive, it is still criticism.
But yea. I guess people just wouldn't want to see this, since the poll is at 1/3
I like the idea, sounds interesting. The whole "new life"-concept sounds cool. I'd actually "not dislike" it, if this made into the game.

Glad to see someone actually likes the idea.
Atleast i'm not the only one... :D
But I guess majority of the rust community just doesn't want to see this :/
This completely negates the social aspect of this game... Just another tool for trolls to use.
Example. Troll spends half the day being...a troll, dies, gets a new name, befriends as many people as he can and then griefs the shit out of everyone who showed him their place.

I did both those things, but I'll spell it out for you again just in case: this simply will not work, because it will cause too much confusion, not allow you to build a reputation in-game, and with the new addition of removing chat functionality, it would just make it even worse.
[QUOTE=MrPancake;42950274]That' the whole point of this, you wouldn't know who is who.

So everytime you die and start your new life, you build a new house, and leave all of your loot behind in the old house?..
I just wrote a reply saying why I didn't like the idea, then I reread what you said and had the opposite opinion.
This could be really interesting. Unfortunately this quite a big change people would only really accept it if it was on a modded server. :(

I know. As great as the idea sounds. Most people just wouldn't like it. And as said... There will always be trolls who abuse shit...
I guess people arent just ready for a full out hardcore game...
If Rust was designed to discourage teamwork, this would be a fantastic idea.
Teamwork is, however, encouraged and almost mandatory. This suggestion runs against this.

There is always Teamspeak/Skype/Steam to communicate with the guy.
It's like a "either you trust the guy completely, or you don't trust him at all" situation...

No. Only your name changes.

So, the solution is to involve third-party VoIP.
Do you really know what you're talking about, lad?

To be honest... No...
I just thought this was a nice idea D:
It's a decent idea, but it has some problems when it comes to applying it to Rust. Being truly anonymous every time you respawn just invites the griefers and trolls to have a complete field day.
If Rust were a solo survival game where absolutely everyone was out to get everyone else, this would be more fitting.

Guess so.
There will always be a problem with trolls
They are the reason we can't have good things :(
.... meh imo dumb idea, the ability to change one's steam name is already enough but constantly having your name changed would just get annoying and wouldn't really add to the game's immersive experiance at all.

Well. People always have different opinions.
I guess the majority has stated theirs. So yea....
