Think you are safe? Think again! We have 4 admins fully dedicated to sniffing out and banning hackers. They already have a banlist of over 80 players, i highly recommend plugin support for a system like metabans or something, we are not even that large of a server and the sheer amount of hackers on a daily basis is simply mind blowing. I dare admins out there to take a day and try to find as many hackers as you can. Its really sad.
I've banned ~40 in the past 4 hours alone.
I was considering making a metabans-type plugin but I read that someone else/another group was so I didn't go ahead with it.

FrostFire20, I completely agree with you and feel your pain fully. I run the Triforce Mafia server, and every time I ban 2+ glitchers(the ones with wallclip, godmode, aimbot) 2+ more show up the next hour either pretending to be another player, or trying to keep their name blank. Thankfully, since Rust doesn't really do well with logs other than the chat log, the players cooperate on giving me their name and/or profile so I can ban their steamID. Rust or Steam needs to implement something that at least checks the integrity of your game, so that people can stop corrupting their data files and bringing glitches to the server.
It's endless, and causes a lot of stress on me.
Remember, they aren't hackers by any means. That is far too glorified for them. They are simple glitchers.

This could totally be possible, all bans are is a banid command that gets auto-called when the server starts up.
Find bans.cfg in your server file browser, that's where the bans are kept.
With so many "glitchers" being banned.. how positive are you that you are not culling legitimate players?

Imo, it doesn't matter... with the number of cheaters around I'd gladly sacrifice a couple legit players to get rid of 90% of the hackers..

That is the right way to look at it Sievers808. The Devs have left the Admins with pathetic tools to use in defense against the Glitchers, and even worse they left the framework of the game so brittle and easy to corrupt. We have to do what we have to do!

yes , but if you ban a couple of legit gamers.. and joe over there bans a few legit gamers.. and 100 other server ban a couple each... because.. its "ok" to get rid of a few legit players to catch the hackers... and you all use a white sheet to cull out glitchers...
you have 200+ legit players banned... and how many glitchers have you successfully culled?
and if your using a white sheet.. and YOU have determined its ok to lose some good people. then the next white sheet server that they try to join, they will be banned too. so really.. your making a decision for the rest of the community.
I understand the options are limited, but don't you think that a little over the top?

I hear you, and I totally agree... I am already planning on switching to using a whitelist this evening, so this won't be an issue anymore.
However, since a whitelist isn't an option for vanilla servers yet, and since some people just wouldn't want a whitelist, a couple casualties aren't the end of the world. There are literally thousands of servers to choose from, if someone get's banned from mine and honestly didn't do anything wrong they can easily find another one.
Again, I totally get that it's shitty, and I'm not trying to say that I just ban everyone who comes into the server, but I'm sure there have been a couple.

ITS NOT shitty. its protecting your server from something that's out of control. a Vac ban is a vac ban. idc if its not their fault start a new account & get over it.
actaully u just can protect ur server with whitelist maybe a whitelist steam grp plugin would be nice^^ so all of ur clan can play and if anyone hacks just get him out of the grp^^
Nice but it's hard to catch the people that cheat "under the radar".
We instaban aimbotters but it's not easy to track down the folks that just steal stuff tru walls or use other exploits.
We are working on a private communitysite for mostly serveradmins so hackers can't lurk and we can counter them more effectively. I will post details as soon as the site is up.

So you get a false ban and your game is rendered useless? They just need to do something like Kazuma and check every file in any folder that Rust uses.
If the files sizes are wrong or there are any strange or missing files it doesn't connect you to the server. If you're firewall blocks it from checking then you don't connect either.

Or a simple hash check on the files, even a tiny change will be detectable.

For detect a hacker, you must use trap because you cant spec a player, you cant teleport (disconnect), you cant use invisible mode with stuff (man heard you and see your name)
First solution : you use a supply grenade, wait with vanish stuff, put vanish name and camp the suplly grenade (l ban 10-15 speed hacker with that)
Seconde solution : you put a shelter with stuff and you camp (ban 10-15 no clipper)
third solution and the best : your best friend donwload a hack, come in your server, you give him the vanish stuff and he use speed hack esp for look all player (jackpot l ban so many people this that, aimbot, speedhack, fly, no clip)

I was on zero's server, cried when i found someone naked looking inside my crates inside my 1x1 house and then he speed ran away, through the wall
