Hey guys,
Reading around about how tight it is to get keys, I asked a friend who hosts rust, wondering how to set up my own dedi-hosted server. He said this (In gyazo screenshot) http://gyazo.com/6a618bb1888989fd60a505b81c394e5e
Seeing that this guy has a cracked hosting key for his company, I was wondering if this is legal to do so, if it is, I will get one.
Cheers!
So revolt is now selling "reseller keys" ? Garry cmon stop this madness with pirate server providers. It's bad for both legit GSP's and players.
PS: No its not legit, legal etc.
A Revolt account has already been permabanned from here. They were not given the password from garry, they supposedly received it from someone who got it from someone who got it from garry that didn't want it, by way of buying out Revolt from its previous owners.
Don't do business with them, they're not authorized by Facepunch in any way and garry won't consider them authorized until the server files are publicly available for GSPs (a la Gmod, anyone can be a hoster).
It really depends on what the laws in your country are, though If you want to host a rust server you should either go with a legit host or wait until they release the server files imo.
As a rule if thumb, if you see 'pirate' or 'resale' anywhere, it's probably not legal.
Ok, how do I report them to someone? I saw the other post saying that he got a cracked key from the previous owner.
Ahh good ol' Revolt...
I am not sure where you can report this kind of stuff but I can recommend staying away from anything with the Revolt brand.

I'm pretty sure garry already knows about this jerkoff, and this thread will probably make its way to him one way or another.
If I were garry, I'd change the SteamCMD password and redistribute it to the current list after confirming they're still the ones they should be (coughcoughRevolt's friend of a friend of a friend).
WHAT?! They're SELLING the key now?!
I knew that Artur Minacov was an asshole right from the start but this is a new low.
Revolt Strike again? that entire thread had me in stitches! maybe they'll come back for a further argument
Could someone link me what they put on here please? It looks interesting to read!

Ok,
So I am playing him along here

He can know read Mr Newmann's Mind http://gyazo.com/2acd4332ed97242b75057776d4c70668
How can he even put these sentences together?
"We are a Non-Official host. The key, again, is authorized and legit."
I have tweeted Mr Newman on twitter, this revolt guy is stupid, giving me essays on why customer satisfaction is being better than an authorised host.
I said this a lot in the other thread but his customer service and happy customers aren't going to mean shit when/if the key gets changed and he can no longer offer servers to all of the "happy customers" who paid for one.
I just asked this Revolt guy it.
this guy sub-revolt is a complete gimp.
I've Tweeted Gary about him "selling" the key
Same.
it was me that got hold of Garry about his guy last time, in the other thread, this guy is a complete fucktard, selling keys now that does not surprise me in the least.
i don't see anything there in your images about selling the key itself. is it possible he just thinks you are buying server space?
if not, i'm really disappointed by how little sense this guy has. "garry said we are unofficial host"... no he said you are not an official host. big difference, and not equivalent by any stretch.
Ahh, the guy spamming me on Reddit is back at it, now selling keys.
I swear all he talks about is their customer service, which means absolutely nothing when it comes to the actual server hosting the game you're paying for (I don't think people are paying $20+/mo for good customer service at revolt).
the worst part is there is nothing we can do about it and he will keep making money while laughing on the way to the bank. Garry doesn't seem to care that much, he's fully aware.

Well if Garry doesn't care, maybe you shouldn't either :).
Garry might be purposely waiting to do something so that more people will be impacted when they decide to change the keys, and then that hard lesson will stay in their minds when making Rust server purchase decisions in the future.
Don't agree with selling keys but I also don't agree with Garry choosing a handful of TERRIBLE server providers and leaving us with no other options.
The only company most people have heard of is Multiplay, and they've heard of them cuz they are terrible. Their routing sucks (almost every person I know pings 10-20 higher to their chicago servers than any other host) and their support is bad. They talk about how they don't run their servers in VMs to seem better than others but the fact is they are garbage and always have been. The other companies I won't mention by name because they all seem like smaller companies who just couldn't handle the issues/ddos that Rust brought.
NFOservers, eoreality, fragnet, simrai are some hosts I'd like to see given a chance to host much better quality, reliable servers for Rust. This monopoly has to end, it's no more work for Garry to just release the files and let people host it if they can figure it out (which some apparently already have anyway).
I for one run a dedicated box which probably would outperform any managed server I could buy, but I have to spend more money on a lower quality solution :(
Edit: I see gameservers.com now has Rust, that is a step in the right direction.

Hey Chicken, routing by GSPs only occurs on the last couple of hops. I just took a look at the winMTR you submitted for this back in February on ticket number 1176942 and it was definitely a problem with hops your ISP was routing through to the server, not us. Routing issues with gameservers are almost always the ISP's fault, sending traffic through poor lines to save on costs.
We've recently been experiencing increased ddos attacks in Chicago. Slightly higher pings (10-30ms) occur when protection layers kick in.
The vast majority of customers aren't experiencing any problems at all,(1500+ Rust servers). A very small % of customers are always a little unlucky with technical problems, I'm sorry you came into that group :(
I presume your issues stopped when you moved your server to your own solution as your ISP's automated routing would then have to re-route to a new location, testing the lines properly again.

This thread isn't for server technical support or GSP advertisements. Take it elsewhere.
lol what kind of people would even buy that. Quit being shady as hell and just buy the original.
One time he contacted me on steam and asked me if I could display his banner on the RustEssentials website (under construction). After I indirectly denied it, he attempted again but this time offered to pay for the service. I continued to deny the offer. He seems like a good person but his actions are not acceptable. A few GSPs had accidentally gotten their key reset after rumor of revolt having a key not authorized to them got out. The problem was fixed shortly after - it was a test to figure out where Revolt actually got the key. I think the test failed if I remember correctly.
The key is supposed to be used by the company it is given to and that company only. I think gifting that key and using that gift are both unacceptable in their own regards.
Strange what extents people will go to for the money. Few will learn from the shunning communities give them. He isn't one of them.
