I am new to Rust I only got it yesterday. I have played for around 3 hrs all on the same server ( it’s the official one which is 1st on the list) I like the game but hate being killed all the time---I seem to only last 10/20 mins before someone kills me! Normally by being shot! I know that the game is at Alfa right now but will there be some type of scale to make the game more balanced for beginners. I have to say that I myself can deal with this but I can see beginners getting annoyed very quickly with the game. What is the best sever to play on as a beginner Thanks (User was banned for this post ("undescriptive all caps thread title" - postal))
Beginner servers
I'm sure there's a server out there you'd be happy on. But, you were warned that the game is in alpha. Balance is not important right now, getting the game working properly is. Balance and fairness are things that will need to be addressed, but right now they are not priority. Here's why: Let's say the devs add a new gun to the game. This new gun needs to have balanced stats and the other guns may require adjustments in order to keep everything balanced. Balance takes time and testing to get right. Between testing it themselves, gathering player feedback after the patch, and looking at the player stats (deaths/kills by weapon/etc.), the devs spend, say, 20 hours on balancing this new gun until it's good enough to leave for now. And then the next patch introduces a new combat feature that, as a side effect, requires rewriting how stats on weapons are stored, calculated, and adjusted, with a completely new damage model. All the guns need rebalancing in the new values. Those 20 hours spent balancing that new weapon are now completely wasted. That's 20 man hours that could've been spent doing other things. I'm not telling you to stop playing Rust, but if this bothers you, you may want to wait a little while longer before giving Rust a try again, give it a chance to get itself together more.
Hi Thanks for your Input. I will still be playing. All I was asking is IF there will be some type of scale to make the game more balanced for beginners. thanks
Like I said, give it time. Rust is still in development and everything can change. The devs are intending for the game to have semi-permanent player-built cities on the map, literally self-policed communities. However, things are not in place for that sort of balancing factor to work yet. Balance and fairness are what you work on after you've got the prototype working, because that's mostly a matter of fine-tuning the numbers.
