I've seen a lot of really cool posts of community ideas for Rust now that some serious promises of the games direction have come out. (Mindmap, and the last devblog) To disclaim a bit I know the game can take twists and turns, and the development is in no way set in stone, but the mindmap is very eye-opening and I think was probably the best thing that the devblogs have revealed to us over this past year. Flying, siege items, and the server transitioning via sea are going to add so much to this game mechanically. But as much as I love researching the trello page, and looking through the mindmap and imagining how it will all play-out, I'm sure a number of you guys have your own ideas about some of that cool new stuff to come. (tl;dr) Mindmap got me hype as shit, tell me how hype you are and what for.
First off hyped for more admin tools. Playability wise looking forward to seeing NPC's (mainly the Caretakers) to be put wherever they will be put. Also would love to see more done with Cave systems, on a cave building binge right now...

I'm looking forward to some life-mod style rust servers
Stoked at the thought of the legacy map coming back, but only because that's the whole reason my friends stopped playing, they loved the legacy map and won't play in any other area.

Perhaps a mix between predurally generated and static would work well. Imagine the original map with the same mountainous areas and road, but the placement of rocks, trees, resources, and buildings are all randomized.

The legacy map has that vanilla WoW effect I feel like, but the procedural maps are only bland because of the baseline theyre going for. When these maps start to evolve and more landmarks fill the open space it will start to become a much better and adventurous way to re-play rust. I never feel bad when the server wipes now, because each time I know its not just a race for that one good spot, its a race to find a bunch of new good spots.

It's what has kept me playing. Maybe have something like the legacy map is the same, but the wasteland area is procedural (and also has resources in it). Could perhaps give the best of both worlds.

Most people stay by the streams, in forests, where they will come across lots of players and animals. If you're too far out you're essentially playing singleplayer. And thats not a bad thing, because some people do prefer playing singleplayer-ish, and they should be able to, but it'll be really important for the devs to make high density areas broad enough and small enough for the game mechanics to function in a fun and exciting way.

Biggest problem for me at the minute is finding animals. As soon as I get near a woods, there are loads of guys with shotties who just blast you away before you can find any animals. I will say though, that the official servers seem a LOT more populated at the minute. Felt like being on Legacy. And the return of global chat is good too.
We have found a great map seed so will be sticking to it, my guys really enjoy it, though wouldn't mind checking out the legacy map when it gets ported over. Radtowns being patrolled/guarded by Caretakers would make my day, as well as the rest of the legacy content that should be coming back (flares etc)
I hadn't thought of it before, but can you guys really imagine rust with vehicles? We walk everywhere right now, and so the map feels so huge, but when we can hop in a little gyro-copter and just fly from one end to another it will seem so small. And with boats, the shores will be littered with houses where player boats are locked away. And with how much this company is pushing physics, the land vehicles will be so fucking fun to drive around.
well the original suggestion was they would spawn the rad sites as the do the current monuments. so have a randomly generated terrain with randomly placed prefabs that spawn loot. and the roads themselves were possibly going to be traffic generated. now they are supposedly even porting rust island into the new game. people seem to worry far too soon that this will not be like legacy. they are just trying to improve on the previous design, not erase it;)
I want to bump this thread I'm going to come up with some concept art for some new creatures to fill the landscape, I figure since blueprints are coming out soon, that means we'll be getting either rad towns, or zombies back temporarily [editline]3rd January 2015[/editline] http://radmin.elasticbeanstalk.com/item/list/all/consumable/ This page I just stumbled upon and it seems to fuel the incoming content hype very nicely
I keep hearing the graphics are so much better and everything, and it's true for some things, but the aesthetic has suffered as a result. I really hope they get that immersive map feeling back.
I think that when the Weather effects, new vegetation etc is implemented into Rust and the Legacy map, no one will recognize it at all.
