well I'm playing on a server and my base is very hidden as a play solo, so i come back after a days farming and i see a storage box glitched in from the inside of my house, then a sleeping bag in the corridor then another box glitched into another wall with the loot room in, there was several of these throughout my base going into various loot rooms, now my question is, has someone encountered this before, and have they done it by placing a sleeping bag into my base through the wall somehow? also all the doors are mine, thanks
Unfortunately it is a present glitch that some people take advantage of, though most server admins will kick any players who use it, as it is a game breaking exploit and basically cheating.
I'm sorry to hear that this happened to you. If your server has an active admin, try to contact him and tell him what happened, and if you haven't already destroyed the sleeping bags/storage containers, don't; leave them there for him/her to see.
You got hacked.
There's an exploit / hack / cheat / whatever you want to call it, which allows people to temporarily hide walls & doors.
yep, this is a glitch. they do something to their game files to make wall textures break and they can place objects inside your house.
haha well that's kind of sad
haha well that's kind of sad
Hackers/glitchers are the saddest kids on the internet.
Hackers/glitchers are the saddest kids on the internet.
Or they're just bored and know that they can get away with it, so why not?
On the servers I play, there are players who've consistently used hacks for months and have yet to be banned.

I'm not too sure about this, but doesn't messing with the games code get you banned?
I'm not too sure about this, but doesn't messing with the games code get you banned?
It does, although not always immediately. I'm not 100% on VAC's practices, but as I understand it bans usually come in waves. If they injected anything in their binaries/game .exe file, they'll be banned soon.
they'll be banned soon.
Not necessarily. There are players who've been hacking for months and have managed to avoid any bans, VAC or otherwise ("cheat punch" etc.)
I'm not too sure about this, but doesn't messing with the games code get you banned?
Nop, it doesn't. It's just a modification from the conf file.
Or they're just bored and know that they can get away with it, so why not?
Why not? Because it's inexcusable bullshit, no matter how long they get away with it. Lucky them for getting away with it, doesn't mean a) they won't be banned eventually, b) that it's okay to keep doing it, and c) that they're not assholes for ruining the game for others.
its not really fair since I cant even prevent it unless I just stay in my base waiting for them to try it next time, especially since I'm playing solo, this is just as bad as hacking imo
Because it's inexcusable bullshit
I asked why NOT hack, and you just answered the opposite question of why.
They do it because they can get away with it (as I already mentioned), and it fuels rage alongside giving them the upper hand in all player interactions. I am with you, I agree, it sucks, but there is no reason not to hack right now. I've simply stopped playing due to this fact.
Try and understand my point. There is no downside to hacking for those who choose to do it. From their perspective, it's rarely detectable, gives them an added benefit, and fuels their game enjoyment (the fact that they're ruining the game is of no concern). The overwhelmingly unfortunate fact here is that there has been no noticeable progress to prevent hacking in Rust. Sure, there are a few VAC ban "waves" every other month, distributed here and there, but at least for me, I have not had a solid 30 minutes of gameplay without a hacker for months. The game is unplayable.
^^

I thought, in respect to the reasoning behind actions, that "why not" was the opposite of "why." But let me rephrase it here:
The reason why you should not hack is because it's inexcusable bullshit, ruins the game for other people, and makes you an asshole. (to a slightly subjective degree, but I think most non-hackers will agree.) Basically you shouldn't do it because it's morally wrong to a largely objective degree, as defined by the general population of players, and the devs, and VAC, but of course people will do it as long as they get away with it, so moral incentives as to "why not" don't apply to them. (I.E. people will act like children on the internet, just how it goes.)
As for no noticeable progress to prevent hacking in Rust, they're not just here or there, handing out a handful of hacks. In February 4000 cheaters were banned, without a single false positive, by Cheatpunch.
I don't know what servers you're playing on, I've seen 2 hackers in the past 2 months of gameplay. I play on community hosted servers w/ active admins, so that helps, and my experience may differ from that of others.
The game is unplayable.
The game is in Alpha, so (unfortunately) there will be periods of limited-no playabililty.
*disclaimer* sorry if I sound mean, I'm trying to keep my tone light. <3
<3 I agree, we are on the same page.
Although, quick note on cheatpunch... It can be disabled within seconds via hosts file, windows firewall, hardware firewall, windows configuration settings, temp folder settings, etc. which are all extremely simple changes.
After multiple interactions with abusive admins on various servers, I landed upon public servers months ago when I first started playing. Unfortunately it would appear this path has led me to the route w/ the most hacking. So I am definitely in the "public server / constant hacking" boat, if that helps my opinion become more understood.

Look at that, I learn something new every day :)
I definitely see where you're coming from w/ the abusive admins too, had my fair share of that BS. I'm too picky to play on public servers though, played in January and got wall hacked alllllll the time haha.
