just wondering if anybody has any good tips for getting people to join their server?
Ive had two randoms join after a few days of being open, and they usually just leave right away,
Is there any place to advertise my server where people can actually see it pretty often, I've posted in reddit and steam community, invited all my fb friends. Server location is in Seattle, which I find is pretty decent place, Where do most rust players live? because I imagine a better location would provide more interest for players right?
I don't know a place whith much attention where you'd be able to advertise a server without having hundreds or thousands of other server owners doing the exact same thing. ;) There are simply way too many servers online.
So the only things you could do is: having a performant and dedicated(!) server that isn't hosted at home but in a datacenter with good latency, which is online 24/7. Then, give it a catchy name and invite your friends. You will need to have serveral players online to attract new ones that won't leave immediately. If you're alone, it will be very hard to populate your server. Also, even if you got some of your friends online, it can take several weeks or even months for having a stable community.
What's also helpful is to be communicative. Give newbs some tips or be helpful. And most importantly: do not abuse. :)
