• Message to the dev's

First off, I want to say hello to everyone. This is actually my first post, but I figured i'd do sorta a quick letter to the devs with it. I welcome, and encourage others to reply to this post with a message of encouragement to the devs, so that maybe during times of frustration, they can recharge here! I really just wanted to take a second to congratulate them on their accomplishments thus far. I do not actually know how many devs are working on Rust, but I know from experience that developing a game is an extremely time consuming, mind consuming, and all around life consuming commitment, especially if it's a small team working on it. I think the game really has potential, and even though I'm sure you're already motivated to keep going with development, I wanted to give you my personal encouragement to just let you know how much I appreciate the work you're doing. The auction idea was a great one, and I hope that you plan on keeping that the only time someone has to pay for the game. As someone who has been gaming since he was knee high, I know games and their culture in and out. Sure, i wasn't there for all of those first games, "Pong and such" but a gamer is a gamer none-the-less. That being said, I look forward to seeing what you do with this opportunity for something great. I would like to see something good come out of it, that adds to us as a community (us being gamers). What I mean by that is, I don't want to see the community of this game turn into what is now the league of legends community. I played that game back in beta, and got around 15 of my friends playing, however, after I soon realized the rage it infused people with, I could no longer handle the skype calls that were full of unnecessary trash talk and screaming about other players making mistakes. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I hope that Rust doesn't attract that sort of community, and becomes a game that people have fun playing, rather than become angry playing. As a game developer myself, I recognize the troubles that you probably already have encountered, and that you will soon encounter once people figure out the cracks in the framework of the game. I know that hackers will always be a constant struggle, and I hope that you prioritize keeping the game hacker free. I would also like to see the game be user friendly enough to attract more casual gamers, but left just "sandboxy" enough to provide that fun game style most of us sandbox gamers enjoy. The only advice I can give is to make sure you are as much of a player as anyone who buys your game. The only way to know what needs to be fixed is to endure the frustrations that us players have to endure, and to make friends within the community to get inside commentary on what we think of the game. Of course, you can only do that if we don't know you're a dev, or else people will flood you with their ideas just because they want to see their idea in the game and maybe impress you or something. If someone finds out your a dev, you need to make sure to change your name or something and start with a new group. I can't stress enough the importance of being a player of your own game. So in the end, I just want to say I am proud to be testing the game with everyone, proud to even have the opportunity to play the game while it's being developed, and even more-so proud of the individuals who have done something great with their life, and entered into the world of game development, which will include many late nights, many hours of frustration over trivial tasks, many relationships which will be tested when this job becomes more than just a job... I wish you all the best in life, in development, and in your time spent playing the games we all love so much. Thank-you. -Yomatsu

*starts tearing up*
Who in world rates it dumb?
Paragraphs.
Didn't mean to rate it funny.was trying to scroll down to read the rest.would have rated it friendly.
Awh Yomatsu, man. Really nice to hear this from you. Thank you for the time you took to write this, it's greatly appreciated and very motivating!
Message needs to be: 1. More public updates on the webpage to keep people in the loop. 2. Keep the servers up, we cant test if the servers aren't up. Too many people on a server doesn't help either. 3. Most importantly the game needs better cheat/hack protection yesterday. Aim bots/Speed hacking/teleporting/flying are so common now that it is breaking the game and those of us that don't are going to be quitting in the droves unless it is addressed pronto. Just quit tonight after having a kevlar clad m4 toting baddy go right through a shut metal door (hadn't been open for 10 minutes).
Oh and lastly... 4. Mods on the forum need to be less Ban-happy and give warnings. the community will not grow if the first mistake you make is the last one you will make. Sticky the hacker/cheater thread too, so the newbies might see it.

I know how important feedback is in the gaming industry, and although my post was more of a thank-you/good luck post, I know it makes a difference knowing you have a community of real people behind you. I'd like to see this game go somewhere, and am happy to play a part in that, even if it's just cheering from the sidelines!

Your warning is the sticky threads at the top of every forum section. Like 90% of the people that have been banned in the Rust subforum since mid-June have never bothered to read any of the forum rules here, at all, and just went straight to posting. That isn't showing any respect to the community. Also, the mods here teach the rules with the stick, not the carrot. If you can't be fucked to lurk around some and learn how the forum works, you get driven into line or driven away if you can't function with the rest. Creating new threads about topics that don't need any more new threads ever is a good way to get the stick. Guess what most people who get bans in the Rust subforum do? However, this particular detail is not a Rust topic, it's a Facepunch topic, so this isn't quite the right section.

I have to agree with Tibirus on all 4 bullets! Yomatsu welcome to Rust! Cik was correct in that your post needed a little more white space. Other than that cool post!

I think I was just really into a deep thought at the time and wanted to show that it was the main part of my thoughts, but like I said, I'll have to keep that in mind for next time :)
