• Kill on Sight? Your thoughts?

Personally, I never kill on sight. I was with a group earlier today and their rule was to "Fuck up" anybody who wasn't part of the group, even if they are a fresh spawn, and mean us no harm, they even go as far as killing friendlies. I want to know your guys's thoughts on this subject, and if I'm the only person in this community sensible enough to at least ask if they're friendly first.
Until you can see names from a distance then 99% of people will kill on site. If not you will die ALL the time.
Until you can see names from a distance then 99% of people will kill on site. If not you will die ALL the time.
That's a good point. Player A must get close to player B to see his name. At which point player B feels threatened, and opens fire.
They'll do it anyway? "OH HEY, I DON'T KNOW HIM! LET ME JUST PULL OUT MY M4 :v:"
Like I said, it's not that whether the do or do not know the person, it's the fact they have to get close to determine who it is, in which case the other player will feel threatened.
Garry described the point of the game as, "I hate that. It's not giving the players freedom. The players should decide how they play the game. You should be fearful of others. That is the whole point." It's always best to play with groups so that way if one guy sees you all, he'll think twice about going 1v5.
I guess I can see where you're coming. I never killed on sight, I always tried to be friendly with people but after being shot at so many times after saying I was friendly, I just said to hell with being friendly I just kos now especially when I have a lot of loot on me. I just can't rust the chance of losing everything.
I adopted a no-KoS attitude when I was playing, but after getting raided by a specific group on a constant basis, staying "peaceful" is either impossible or extremely difficult to do without getting completely destroyed by everyone that even approaches you. Eventually it became so irritating that I just quit testing. I'm not sure how the new voice features will have an impact on this though.

It's nearly the same in my opinion.
Theirs nothing wrong with KoS. Names rendering further and an ability to create a friends list and have some sort of visual indicator on their in-game model to identify they are your friends would limit the KoS slightly in a more positive way (not accidentally killing people you are "friendly" with) Voice chat will also help limit KoS as it's easier to ask if the person you see is friendly or not. But you should be able to shoot and kill anyone you please for any reason you want. It's a survival FPS, if you leave your base and wander around the map, you shouldn't expect nothing to happen to you. It sucks when you die with loot, it's supposed to. That's what makes you want to keep playing, because you know sooner or later you will be the person who kills the guy with all the loot.
This is how I get killed every time by dudes with m4a1 when I got nothing on me.
Generally i don't bother to attack unless they shoot at me. But rest assured that if you attack me you better be prepared to die!
Generally i don't bother to attack unless they shoot at me. But rest assured that if you attack me you better be prepared to die!
Amen!
I'm not the kind of player to "KoS" anybody who doesn't shoot at me first, although there were a few times when someone ran at me with a hatchet in hand so I had to take the initiative and shoot them below center body mass (legs or knees) as to give them a sort of a warning shot. People could do the "bunny hop" as a sign of good intentions. I do that whenever I see other players who are unarmed and it seems to work.
KoS is a less of a problem since the voice chat was added. It's really nice now.
@43 - Gather you where at our base at the time, tendency while in a large group, one kills anyone who don't do " jump checks " while at once own base. I how ever, try not to kill you if I'm out alone farming or what ever, depends on the tension between us. If your not a threat while I'm alone, I let you go.
Since the addition of VOIP i'v been trying the friendly approach, with little success. Guess killers will kill, no matter what.
After my first month of always dying when I had nothing and no one I finally turned a page, joined a good group and KoS everyone I see...
Too much of it, but it will most likely be balanced in beta. Just be patient and continue testing soldiers!

I really don't have a problem with KOS, because it is a survival FPS.. it's expected that you kill anyone to survive. But it's a MAJOR problem whenever you can't even survive more than 3 minutes after spawning because someone with an M4 decides they want to use you as target practice. Honestly, I wanted to help find bugs and test the game out, but I can't even survive long enough to build a basic Wood Shelter. This is something that really annoys me in Rust. The whole point of the Alpha was so we could test for bugs, not go around shooting everyone we see.

Wasn't very specific on what they patched for the gun.
I can't even survive long enough to build a basic Wood Shelter.
That's a skill-level issue. I started out like, two hours ago after dying and having no camp or anything, and currently I have a 9mm Pistol, a Shack, a wooden door, storage crate, bunch of cooked meat, and none of the default equipment used(other than the axe, obviously)
After my first month of always dying when I had nothing and no one I finally turned a page, joined a good group and KoS everyone I see...
I see a lot of people doing this... I definitely see your motivation in doing so. I personally have been killed COUNTLESS times trying to be friendly, and still continue to do so. My main goal in this game is to never become a bandit. I NEVER shoot unless the person poses a threat, or shot me first. I guess it's a patience issue.
lol 43eyes that group did not say to fuck everyone up , nor to kill friendly's , you sir have got the concept of the group totally wrong
If you're talking about Dynasty you have extremely exaggerated our motives. You didn't want to kill people walking up to our base when we were building, we VOIP to them saying "Leave or die" and then we shoot if they don't leave. Don't make accusations like that please.

Heh midzy, has dynasty moves bases yet?

You guys gave no consideration on whether or not they were friendly. Remember when Magic came by and everyone wanted to kill him despite 2 people from the group knowing him?
Without Kos the game wouldn't give you that sense of "fear" it adds an additional element to the game that many others can't give you, you'll end up fearing getting killed and loosing your stuff. I think KoS is a good thing when it doesn't screw myself over :downs:
