I have a question - a server I was playing on is being DDoS'ed.
When I lag out, and press f1, the message I receive is "facepunch kick speedhacks".
The same thing happened when I was playing on a laggy EU server.
Apparently, when admins teleport and DC, they receive the same message.
Is this actually being logged by VAC, despite not being an actual hack, but rather a lag/desync issue?
A definite cause for concern, if so. I've already heard several people complain about being VAC banned who were not hacking, including several server administrators. While I can't speak to the validity of their claim, it is concerning that apparently non-hack related activity is being logged as hacking.
The chances of an admin being banned for using the teleport command is almost nil. So close to nil I would say without a shadow of a doubt, those that claim innocence are indeed almost certainly liars.
This isn't logged by VAC, that's not really how VAC works.
This is in-game cheat protection and it's not perfect... especially in regards to teleporting.
To be able to TP I added a line to my server.cfg file that said:
truth.punish false
and it allowed me to TP as normal again.
I am iffy about it now with the new update... should I re-enable this command to get the effect of the noclip, duping, etc protection?

It's not that they're being banned for teleporting, at least not directly. When they teleport, they are kicked and it is logged as a speedhack. When they open console, it says "facepunch kick speedhacks".
Then, VAC bans them for "speedhacking" because that is what it is logging it as.
There has already been at least one false VAC ban overturned ([url]https://twitter.com/playrust/status/421258290559868929[/url]), so it seems that the VAC system is banning legitimate players over this. Thought I'd ask about it and bring it to the dev's attention. I'm all for getting hackers banned, but I'd rather not have to go through a dispute while having a big ugly "VAC BAN ON RECORD" on my account.

Oh don't get me wrong, VAC bans have been wrong before, BUT, I'm specifically talking about the teleporting admins and being VAC banned for the "speed hack". That is almost certainly not a worry.
