A bear trap would fit well, indeed. And it can rust. Explosives trapped chests would be fun too.
I don't think it really works because I can assure you these traps would be on everyone's doorstep, people can abuse new players by placing loads of them on new players houses that they cannot even go out
I reckon this would be a nice feature set traps for when someone breaks down the door spike trap or something
Trap can only be built on foundation would be nice for defense just that people wont abuse it to lock someone in.
I would be cool with traps as long as they can be disarmed by people other than those who set them. Elsewise every house would be damn near impossible to raid. If I were guarding my house in the real life in the circumstances that rust gives us, I would definitely use traps. However, I would also be cautious of them before entering a location, and consider what I need to do to avoid them/trigger them safely. maybe give an option to step over/cut a trip wire if you look directly at it, or opening doors from the side so that if something swings out it will swing past you.
Bear traps are most likely coming in the next update as shown in the accepted items on the item editor.
i made a comment on another post, but one trap id love to see which i believe was used in vietnam if my memory serves me correctly. You take a spent bazooka tube, or any metal tube. You place hand grenades in the tube with their pins pulled but levers held down by being in the tube. A catch or some kind of stopper holds the grenades in the tube. A trip wire is attached to the stopper. The tube would be mounted up high like in a tree, or for home defense through a ceiling or just propped up in a top corner some where. When the trip wire is hit it releases the grenades, thus greating a lovely new jackson polack piece on your wall
Animal traps would work but if they worked on players people would just stick them outside people's doors. And I mean animal traps that need to have bait put on them to lure and snare stuff
I already have a trap. I built my base next to a rock. There is a small gap that once someone falls off roof into, they cant get out. I placed spikes at the bottom and a door from my house opens into it. People fall of my roof, die in the pit, and I loot their packs from the doorway.
