Just started playing the latest update. Build everything I could, stone hatchet, wooden spear, furnace... ran around for 30 mins looking for empty barrels... now what? I can't do anything... is there any point in playing at the moment, or should we all just be waiting for the blueprints to be put back in?
Neil is it that you can't find barrels ?
Last night I played for three hours and found many blueprints. I never found anything in rad town chests but tons of barrels.
Blueprints are definitely in the game, I've found a few. They are really rare though and the game is pretty difficult to play without a ranged weapon.
Has anyone found a gun blueprint? Do they exist?
I didn't recognize the bp's at first because I was looking for the old style ones. In addition I swear I had placed a green shirt bp in the clothing slot and I was wearing the shirt, but this I want to test again. Anyway, I thought they were glitched graphics for a while.
You can wear/use the blueprints or eat them and learn the recipe. If you are having trouble finding them you just need to hit more barrels.
Guns do not spawn in loot barrels ATM blueprints for everything else does,
each item that spawns has a chance of spawning.
look on the official item site (this site is directly linked to Rust any stats change on here and the in game stats change)
http://radmin.elasticbeanstalk.com/itemeditor/
if you look @ the guns they have a spawn likelihood of none but the Json file has two settings one is set @ very rare i think this is the airdrop setting and the other to none which i think is the barrel setting,
I have not seen ANY blueprints for gun but i have only ever found 3 airdrops. so they could be in those.
Edit: Also i think that ANY item we find has a chance of being a blueprint (as long as that item has a blueprint), so if you find a 9mm bullet 5% of the time it will be a blueprint 9mm bullet.
I played for hours last night. I hunted for barrels when I saw them, but didn't go out of my way to do it. I still managed to:
- kill animals
- find and inhabit a cave
- upgrade house to full stone
- have fun trying to catch airdrops with a friend
- play the game just like I did before
I get the impression people are just mad that they can't make guns anymore.

I'm enjoying not getting shot in the back by cowards. I'm deadly with my spear and salavged axe! Many would be bandits/KOSers have died attempting to steal my shit.
I think people are really just going to have to get used to a slower progression again.
It's crazy that we had every BP for testing purposes and now that the game is playable everyone is freaking out like we were suppose to know everything lol

Exactly nobody is freaking out over BPs in this thread.
If you go play legacy you'll see you can craft alot more starting items.
Also getting blue prints are alot easier.
I've broken 150+ barrels and i've found diddly shit for blue prints.

BUT WHY CAN'T RUST BE MORE LIKE CoD?

But barrels are not blueprint generators. You are not supposed to be out on blueprint quest. There is a progression. There is no evidence yet the system is ROT not RNG. Smashing 1,000,000,000 barrels could easily be the same as smashing 5 if it is ROT and all you need to do is wait... It seems to me people are trying to force progression by smashing as many barrels as possible. Forgoing the actual game play to just to get as powerful as possible as quickly as possible.
Hopefully this will die down. I hope to see research kits sooner than later.
The drama I think comes from the lack of Research Kits rather than the lack of Blue Prints.

Hi, as the OP, I wasn't complaining that I can't make guns anymore, I was complaining that you can't get established anymore, (unless you play on an empty server). I will try to explain better...
I usually play on the most popular server, (because I like the challenge, playing on an empty server feels like cheating to me). My usual game is to try to stay alive long enough to get what I need to build a small base, then craft weapons and armor to defend myself, while gathering more resources to improve and expand my base, making it virtually unraidable.
Now, with the new blueprint system, every game goes like this. Spawn with nothing. Gather some resources to craft a stone hatchet. Gather some more resources. Realize that there is no point in building a base until you have a sleeping bag, realize that it's bloody hard to get cloth without any weapons. Run around for 20 mins looking for something useful in empty barrels and get KOS'ed by the first nekkid guy you meet. If you do build a base, you can't do anything in it. You build a furnace, smelt metal ore, and for what? I have 2000 metal fragments and nothing I can craft with them. I have a ton of sulfur, but no gun powder BP, so that is just sitting there with my all my useless metal. If I go out looking for barrels I will either get KOS by one of the other nekkid dudes also running around looking for barrels, and all I have to defend myself is a wooden spear. Or I will venture too far, and never find my base again.
The only thing you can do is leave the popular servers, find an empty server with like 2 or 3 people on it, and then run around for 2 hours collecting barrels until you have enough BPs to start playing. Then build your base. On a popular server you have absolutely zero chance of getting established...
So then wait for it to change? Garry himself said the system is temporary. I'm not trying to be rude, but when the forums get flooded with people complaining about a temporary system the entire subforum gets derailed with bickering and arguments. Most of us are mature patient people who will wait for the system to improve, and we will be happy. It just takes time. More time than it takes to make a frustrated post on this forum.
Again, I'm not saying you're wrong or that your irritation is unwarranted, because you are right that it's very hard right now. However, bringing it here where everyone is already a step ahead is not necessarily helpful.
To be honest i think it's more playable now than it has ever been, but I have time to spend 6 hours playing to get a hold or get some sort of base and some blueprints together, I have >40 hours a week i can dedicate to playing games. There are a lot of people out there who don't, Legacy was a quick fix game or a long haul game depending on how you wanted to play.
I know it will change, but without these discussions and input from players the DEV's won't know how people feel.
I would like to see Bow and arrows in our start up blueprints.

I'm playing on Amsterdam and in less than 2 hours (at peak hours) I had a house with a sleeping bag.
Maybe I got lucky I don't know.
For me, the only thing that changes is that you no longer get KOS'ed by guns but by melee weapons.
The new system needs a lot a tuning yes, but what a system ! I like it.
It gives a sense of progression and maybe will push players a bit more towards collaboration (I can make bows and you can make arrows : let's trade/cooperate/do-something-together).

I see your point, and I'm not trying to be rude either. But I also was under the impression that nothing is set in stone currently, and that feedback helps the developers decide on what direction, changes, etc. I like the BP idea in general, but was giving my feedback that currently you start with too few, and it is too time-consuming and dangerous to hunt in barrels on a popular server. My only hope was to find a quiet server with no one on it, which goes against my sense of achievement and challenge of playing on a busy server with lots of enemies.
Sod weapons.. can anyone sell me a large storage box BP??
I for one am loving this new update. There is no longer an "I Win" Button. It now takes cunning and skill to get what you want. People need to see that this game is becoming a challange, not a free for all.

Yeah I don't know why so many people think you're whining, your OP came off pretty clear to me personally. There needs to be at least one ranged weapon in the starting kit otherwise new players to the server are going to be sitting ducks waiting to be murdered.

Kulan - is there a similar link like the one you provided here for items that has an up to date list of Admin server commands? It seems most websites are out of date still showing commands that no longer are in the game.
If melee is going to be so important now, maybe it's time to implement right click block.

"find ." in console will give you most of the commands if not all, if you want items list the Item editor site is directly linked to the game which is here http://radmin.elasticbeanstalk.com/item/list/approved/consumable/

The only problem I have with melee is the spear. I also played at the official Amsterdam server and chased a lot of people with the wooden spear (people also chased me). The range of this weapon is way too much. If you're chasing a guy you always end up killing him. Especially when the guy is lagging for a small second. Just 2/3 hits and he bleeds out. Also there's no chance of losing the person behind your back. There's no way of hiding between rocks like you could do in the Legacy map.
I'm not talking about a game breaking issue here. But it's just what I've noticed when playing the game with the latest update.
