Weird performance issues ( 2-5s Freezes ) with a good PC

Hi everyone,
I'm playing using the last reboot release. The game is smooth ( more then 50-60fps ) but from time to time ( when looking backwards, when another player is close... ) the game freezes for 2 to 5 seconds. I lowered all the graphics settings ( no PVT, no AO, visibility distance to 4000, terrain quality to 35 ... ) and it still does that. It's very annoying, since it always happens when someone is trying to kill me.
Here's my configuration:
Nvidia GTX660
Intel core I5 4 cores @ 3.0GhZ
4Gb of RAM
Windows 7
1650*1050 display
Any idea what's causing that ?
Thanks
I experience the same issue. it's actually really annoying.
I will be running through a field and gathering resources just fine. Than when some one come towards me to kill or I run from another player to avoid getting killed ill freeze up for a couple seconds to relize im bleeding and about to die.
Same here.. Must be some performance bug/issue. But it's indeed very anoying when in battle. Best thing to do is keep on moving around instead of engaging.
I think it's somewhat related to other players. Because said freezes seems to happen more often on highly populated servers, and the rest of the time it does that whenever someone approach you. Every time I died from another player, the game froze that way.
I'm getting issues like these on the Development(beta) branch myself. No buildings in sight, 15 players total, and all graphics options turned off(fastest) I am still getting freezes every 5-10 steps I take.
It's a keyboard lock, press f1 and type anything it will unfreeze you.
As Zosi said, it's your keyboard locking up. It should be mostly fixed in the latest client update.
If you're still having issues, type this in the console.
client.maxunack 10
If you're still getting lockups, try raising the number.
For me, this problem is for sure connected to other players and their buildings. If map is empty and wiped everything is running fast and smooth. But when map is covered by artificial human made structures then performance is going down and i have lots of fps drops. My friend have the same problem and his pc setup is completely different (i have Radeon 7870 and he has Geforce GTX 770)

then its a server side issue, whatever server you guys visit doesnt have the resources it needs to handle the stress of rendering the entities.
Keyboard lock? wtf is that?
I have same freeze thing since last update every ~10 seconds and when i try to do anything i get message that rust stopped working, i can quit or wait, when i wait it unfreeze in ~5-30 seconds, it's so annyoing. Impossible to play. It may be something with CPU, my friend is using AMD one and do not have any freeze problems, i'm using Intel i5 cpu same as author of this topic.
Yep
It's not a keyboard lock, it's a real freeze ( the screen freeze, you run at 0fps ) , and like the above user whenever you try to do something during the freeze the game ( and sometimes the whole computer) juste crashes.
Come on, I tried to max out every graphic settings, the game looks glorious and runs at 30-40fps, and still, the same damn 5 sec freeze whenever a player comes nearby.
Also considering everyone and all entities are laggy as hell and you can't hit them, everything warps constantly. They really need to continue to fix the server performance/syncing. I keep dying because I can't hit them.

Yes, the warping is what is crazy... I will be chasing a guy. I am playing on the Official Texas server of Experimental and it's ridiculous. They guy will appear to stop running then skip 10 yards ahead. Or I will be running from someone and look back it appears they are 10-20 yards behind me then bam I fall over dead cause they someone hit me with spear cause the lag. It's really ridiculous.
I've been experiencing this too, for some time.
The problem seems to be worse under the Linux build compared to the windows one.
Don't get me wrong I love the game and the ideas it has but this is one of the biggest issues that needs to be fixed, you can't play it well if at all in this state. If it's worse under linux I can't even imagine it.
Last patch with water update fixed freeze problem for me nearly completly. ~1 freeze per hour of gameplay.

So you're trying to tell me, that even official servers are not capable of running this game smooth? (i have the same problem on those) If it's true, it means that this game needs some major performance tweaks.
gtx 480
phenom II 965 be
780a nforce
OMG - 8gb DDR2 800
fantastic settings / 1600x900 - window mode
shadows - 250
max draw 6000
max texture 100
anti-alia on
procedural textures on
color and vignette on
full reflections on
light rays or whatever its called = on
blur off - dirt lens off
steady 20-40 fps.
Fastest settings (launcher option)
same in game settings
40-70 fps steady. I was expecting much much more - considering the huge difference in visuals.
alpha is alpha.
There is 2 types of lag :
* local lag happening because your computer can't handle the load. For me this local lag doesn't exist (almost). Just sometimes when I'm moving the game loads a chunk of the map/content and that seems to generate a big load. At most I "freeze" for half a second but nothing I cannot handle really. At least you can fix this lag yourself by buying better hardware.
* remote lag happening because of network glitches or server side lag. This is the most annoying for me because there is nothing I can do. Warping sucks and is rage feeding. My network connection is OK so I'm almost certain this lag comes from the server. (I'm playing on crowded official servers)
Is Facepunch running their officiel servers on crappy hardware ?
Can anyone running a big fat crowded private server tell me ? Do you suffer from lag too ?
