• user created content added to servers via airdrops?

So I was playing on a server the other day and got to thinking about the airdrops. I think it would be awesome to see user created items be deployed to other servers via airdrops. Every day a set of user created content can be downloaded to the servers and the given out in game only via Airdrops. This would drive users to hunt down the precious airdrops more as the would have no clue as to what new item may be added. So let's say we added a low grade fuel electric generator, wiring and electric lights to an airdrop. This is not something you can just go find in the world but would be worth enormous value. A lot of people are either gonna want to make friends with the dude or rob him blind! But who knows... maybe instead of something so valuable and complex, you find a dress, pair of heels and a large purse.... Not sure people want to be running around in drag but heck you never know. So think about how this effects the dynamics of the game. One day you call it a night and the next time you log into a server you suddenly see forts lit by electric lights and a party of drag queens blasting their fire arms into the air! Just never know!
While not all user made content will be definitively added to the game, the airdrop idea would be a neat way to reveal new items being added, for sure. Everyone'd be asking who got the airdrop, what was in it, what's it look like, what does it do, can I research it, etc. Cool way to bring servers together and amp up the competition.
This would definitely be a middle-of-beta feature and not something that'd be added next update, but this idea is fairly interesting. I don't know that I agree with the idea exactly as you've written it down to the exact detail, but I wouldn't make massive changes if it were up to me. And since it's a good while before it'd likely be slated to be added in, no point arguing over the little details. :v:
Exactly! But you could end up with hoarders who won't share and then those who would give it out or trade to others. Soon the item goes from rare to common. Kinda like a virus it could lay dormant for a period and the spread quickly or just spread like wild fire. It really adds a new dynamic to the game which isn't driven by stupid AI. (No offense but I have yet to see a realist AI). BUT instead it is now driven by users. That's one reason Minecraft became so popular was because of all the new content being added. Now don't get me wrong, there is still controls in place to prevent items that may ruin the games core game play mechanics. The items can be approved in packaged groups. Maybe some long range walkie-talkies! Blah.. gonna stop posting. Wish I could quit my current IT job and go work along side these guys on this game. Then maybe all my time spent going to Westwood wouldn't have been a waste.
What you might want to do is think of game ideas on your own, download the free version of Unity, poke around and see what community-made scripting libraries and assets are out there, and see what you come up with. It might turn into something that's fleshed-out enough that you can take the risk, get some backing, quit, bring some talented people onboard to cover the bases you're not so good at, and make something of it. With luck, you'll find cooperative, trustworthy collaborators and a game hits the market. Or make a mod for something, get your name out there. It'll be a lot more effective than wishing you could get hired at Facepunch. (BTW, they're looking.)
I've already got a license for unity with my oculus rift. But you are absolutely right. Thank you good sir!
