Auto Turrets currently being worked on, your opinions?

So here's how it goes:
Helk is working on the autoturret branch. Here is a brief explanation he commented on reddit last week and some concept art:
The first pass I'm going to do will have some limitations, like a 90-120 degree firing arc, and short range <30-50m
The idea being you would place them in corners or inside your compounds so raiders would get fucked over, you won't be able to place them on your roof and have it clear the landscape for you or anything like that, think more like tf2 style turrets
So what do you guys think? This what you had in mind for the auto turrets?

I hope that finally includes electricity and proper lights for bases and stuff. Otherwise - not wanted from my side.
*edit* not that i don't like the idea, but it would feel like doing the 3rd step before the 1st without including electricity.
Well, given there's a windmill, electricity doesn't seem unlikely.
Seems like a cool concept. Wonder how it knows who to shoot, though.
I don't know how this is really going to help defend a base if you're offline, people will just respawn and eventually kill it. Hopefully you don't have to load it with ammo, or people are just going to run by it until its out then move on. Maybe it would be effective if you're online defending your house and they break through a wall, but most likely if they get that far it would only buy you a little time, especially if you have to reload it.
Also they're probably going to be it retardedly expensive, which will price out the people that could most benefit from it
EDIT:
lol just read the rest of that post
"How to craft / rarity
This will be a pretty rare item, only able to crafted from new parts which will be found at helicopter crash sites."
LOL, yeah defend your base from raiders and groups by building something only groups have access to
"It will most likely fire 9mm rounds to start and have a 50 round clip with a 3 to 4 second reload. You’ll be able to drop hundreds of rounds in its storage before you log off, ensuring it has plenty of ammo to take care of those pesky offline raiders."
lol the raiders are just going to run by it wasting its ammo

That's still time they're wasting trying to get past your turret, which means it's helping. With the turret they lose time/supplies having to react to it, without the turret, they've already looted your base, got authorization, covered the walls in signs with dicks on them and left. Not to mention, if in both cases you were offline then there's still no difference to you, only to your raiders. Currently the best defense against raiders is base design and RARELY 1-2 traps, this adds a whole new element which people have really wanted for a long time, and they've said it's all likely to change, and your first reaction is to shit all over it? Cmon man, it's GOOD if raiders can figure out ways to get past it, this SHOULDN'T be the perfect solution. It's good to point out potential flaws for constructiveness sake, but don't be the stereotypical pessimist that hates something before they even get to test it.

I wont be able to test it since apparently i need to shoot down a chopper just to get the parts to build it, let alone find the BP. If anything it will waste some raider's time, they will just loot their own bodies.
I'm shitting on it because the function and requirement do not even closely match the reason for implementation, to protect your base. but really only to protect large group's bases based on what is presented so far.
And if no one is going to point out this oversight i might as well before it reaches the game

You can do that without being so negative. I actually had the same thought about how it's accessibility is a bit backwards, perhaps it should take HQM, metal frags and 1 AK instead, or something like that, but then you'd just have the big groups spamming them everywhere. There's downsides either way and when you jump to one side without considering the other I think you're more prone to be salty and hate mongering. Don't do it like that. :saxout:

I've been salty since they killed solo playing and keep killing it. Might as well make it a team game already with a supported clan system.
Yeah.......cool idea but only being available from server events or crash sites... only large groups will be able to have turrets.
It should run on low grade fuel as well.
It's a cool idea but I think clans would just kamikaze it until it's out of ammo.
When electricity is added, there should be a laser turret upgrade.
Next Week
This will be my last foray into the endgame content for a little while. It’s time to take a hard look at the early-to-mid game. We need to fix it so early/mid game lasts quite a bit longer, and those players have more options and things to do. We also need to look at why there are so many encounters between endgamers and new players and try and make the maps a little more geographically important to spread tiers of players out a little bit more. Lots to do!

Honestly, that worries me more. I haven't like anything Maurino changed, I truly think he needs to play the game more. Especially if he is wondering why players are picking the bow over the revolver. That genuinely makes me think he hasn't even used it. That gun is absolute shit, does hardly any dmg, cant see what you're shooting while aiming, that's why people use the bow. All of those traits are painfully obvious. Let along you have to invest like 20 minutes into make one shity revolver, let alone the ammo/gp.
I dont need help mid game or early game, i need to be able to build a god damn AK with out needing a miniature city

This isn't a problem that clever base design can't solve.

Aggressive bitching also apparently has a pretty high chance of seeing change too. Keep up the fight raar, eventually maybe you won't have to kill yourself out of impudent rage.
Turrets won't be the first "novelty" in this game that are difficult to properly place and defend and almost as expensive to maintain as the benefits they provide. It apparently hasn't stopped us from using quarries.

I can always count on rust for my daily dose of rage.
Well more than a few of you seem salty over the turrets implementation, well, only thing I have against it is what it takes to make it which has already been pointed out. Other than that I like the look of it :)
What's stopping people from putting a sleeping bag down beside the base only to suicide into said base to drain the turrets ammo?
if they run into line of fire and get shot chances are they lose their stuff if they get killed every time they try to loot their corpse. It's a potentially pretty lethal weapon. And as long as the parts can be studied i wouldn't worry that you can't get the bp from weapon crates, it just means you'll have to trade with some1 else

I think you need to be less salty and think about this, if the parts are only found in crash sites then large clans can take them out there is a 8 minute fire that needs to burn out before it can be looted so there is a plenty sizeable window to jack the crash site and do not tell me 1 person cant take out 3 people there are plenty of vids out there of people having skill and a bit of luck and managing to take out 3+ ppl if you are equipped properly
Also server events i.e. Airdrop and what ever else they have in mind to implement "server events" is an open ended statement which could and probably will include other events in the future that arent implemented yet.
another point, you dont need a city to create an AK you get 3 HQM from the grey coloured mining nodes and 1/2 from the other 2, you are more than capable of acquiring enough HQM whilst mining to build a decent sized base that you can craft an AK from.
stop bitching about the game and learn to play solo play is not dead your just sucking at it.
I can imagine 2 scenarios, it's going to be useless in small bases unless you can place it inside, Large groups will spam dozens of them within their compounds.

unless the parts arent researchable and requires multiple takedowns to acquire all parts to make 1 and more take downs and airdrop loots to make multiple
i strongly disagree with the Idea, personally.
I feel that Rust is becoming much more hostile than it ever was, or needed to be.
I think the developers are adding content to the game that is great if your in a group, but is really frustrating if playing solo or in a small group.
Not to mention the considerable amount of Rust players that enjoy PVE.
This is not the same as a landmine, that kills a player for being unlucky, or not concentrating.
This will kill you for walking around the wrong corner while the owner of the turret will be oblivious to your death.
Your loot will most likely despawn, and when playing solo dying with loot by player is often frustrating anyway - this will drive some solo & casual players away like myself.
The concept is great but players will abuse the item, placing them around rad towns for example. Groups will mass produce them.
The rust i know is a game where the player and his/her community do EVERYTHING themselves, completely independent, with no help from automated systems or help from the mechanics or the environment.
Every player starts with Nothing and has to use their initiative, communication skills, trust, risks, timings, social skills and decisions to stay alive and get stronger.
The addition of automated turrets that can shoot intruders willy-nilly will instantly break that central aspect of this game.
I think this is the developers way of attempting to steal back some of the audience that moved to Ark. And I do not like the sound of it.
I was unhappy with the harshness of Helicopters but thought i'd do my best to adapt. I'm finding it very frustrating and difficult to progress when i'm being targeted for owning decent clothes and metal tools.
Its ridiculous, they should only attack players holding firearms or explosives, the addition of turrets will completely push me away from one of my favorite games EVER.
Just my opinion.
If they add turrets, they should at least allow server owners to remove them from crafting/spawning.

I'm not sure if you even bothered to read the devblog on it, but the effective range is not that far. Combined with how rare they'll be and how expensive constant ammo supplying will be, they're not going to be spammed around the perimeter of every base. They'll be inside the base, tucked away in places that will be hard to see from a distance to reduce the chance of the turret getting sniped down. So if you're trying to solo raid someone who is offline, you're most likely not going to get any further and that is the point.
What's stopping people from putting a sleeping bag down beside the base only to suicide into said base to drain the turrets ammo?
What is stopping them from doing that now and getting your materials instead of having to wait out an undefined number of bullets?
I like this feature and don't at the same time. It will kill solo raiders trying to sneakily take out a big clans base (on the very rare occasion this happens) and benefits big clans and groups too much. I'm hoping to see more changes that'll benefit solo players rather than things like this.
Especially as I don't see how they will solve the issue of someone plonking down a sleeping bag and running naked ahead of his team repeatedly to find and drain the turrets of ammo? They need to fix the spawning before this could be useful otherwise it's too easy to exploit.
I really hope you can mount the gun, and detach the gun from it's mount. SO MUCH VERSATILITY!!!!

The first iteration looks like it will use the AK so I don't see why not.
I just wanna be able to craft them myself because basically no chance is a solo player going to get any of the chopper debri
So sick of the crying of SOLO this and SOLO that, man up and you can do it SOLO! I have taken the chopper down a few times solo. Play smart and you can quite a bit SOLO.
