So what am I doing wrong? I have a hunting cabin right near a rad town, where I can step out and hunt red animals all day. Have never seen them drop. Or a silencer.
you might be in a server where theyre off
Are you playing on a server with mods? Because DropParty will do that, among others.
Exlosives are usually found in supply drops from the airplane, silencers i have found in a building near the hangar, and bolt actions are pretty rare, ive had friends who obtained them from raids, all items ive had to use a research kit on.
Silencers are a dime a dozen - shocked you haven't seen one. I've got 100 hours logged, and I've never seen a BAR either, though.
Some servers have those guns and mods removed out of their loot tables. Our server has BAR at low drop rate, like %12 chance in weapon crates. C4 on a lot of servers is from airdrops only.
From mutants? Id say that is quite normal, you are not looking on the correct places. Mods, guns itself are easily found on metal crates @ rad towns. (And more..) C4 can be dropped by green crates aswell. (and airdrops obv..)
I've seen a single Bolt Action from loot in all of my time playing. I actually found a C4 and a schematic for them off the same red bear. Only explosive I've ever found was in what turned out to be an abandoned tower(almost everything there decayed at once when I took said explosive). Its just a matter of real life luck and being willing to look in out of the way places(IE: sneaking onto other peoples property).
Explosives are from airdrops only. On the official servers, C4 is an incredibly rare drop in boxes/animals, but it is essentially useless without explosives. If your server does not have enough players for airdrops, you'll never get explosives (assuming it's a vanilla server) Bolt action is quite rare, but not impossible to find in boxes/animals. P.S. The acronym/shortform "BAR" for the rifle is kind of dumb since this is a well-known name for the real "Browning Automatic Rifle". ;) See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1918_Browning_Automatic_Rifle
I'm on an official server, US East 3. I've seen people use the c4, and use the BAR, but I've never seen any of the listed items drop.
I have close to 200 hours of time in game and have found a all guns in weapon creates a few time, but have yet to find a BAR or C4 off a monster or create. The times I did get c4 and explosives going, I got the explosives out of an air drop and my friend found a c4 off a zombie prior to their removal. Its just a numbers game and luck. As prior to finding a few M4's I had never found one, then I got 3 fairly quickly close to each other.

Either way OP, sometimes luck is just bad. I played for a week, never once saw C4 on my server (raiding Big Rad alot) A friend started playing and within a hour of raiding Big Rad he had collected 3 C4... crazy

300 hours in i have gotten 2 bar drops. one in a box one on in a corpse bag. c4 and explosive can be gotten out of a air drop. although i have gotten c4 from boxes/bags. explosives i have never seen drop in anything but a air drop.
I have 300 hours and I've only looted a BAR from a box once, and that was in the past week. The rest have been from kills or airdrop. I've gotten 5-6 looted charges though, not counting airdrops, and I generally don't loot many boxes or animals after established on a server, as it's much easier to just gather mats once you have all the recipes, then to waste your time running around rad towns. Ammo is the only really compelling thing from crates at end game, 556 disappears fast.
BAR = Bolt Action Rifle
HERP DERP thought he actually mean a BAR XD
I've got 400hrs on Default drops I've managed to get many Bolt actions and M4's and C4. Air drops are the only thing to drop Explosives, the component. Drops are fine.
I heard that if the server is not populated there is no airdrop. For the time I've played on populated server I've seen 2 air drop and 5 planes. Maybe they should make more airdrop.

This is supposed to be a survival game not a keep running around in circles in large rad for half an hour until you have everything game. I would like to see the default loot tables adjusted so that weapons are rarer, item amounts are smaller and that in general higher grade materials, blueprints and items are much more rare.
I don't know if I have been mislead, but apparently there is a super rare chance that explosive can be dropped off of MAnimals. There is a small group on my server that has explosive, but there has never been an airdrop on my server.
Explosive Charge yes, but not Explosives.
http://rust.wikia.com/wiki/Explosive So this is wrong as well? Edited: Well there was info there before, seems like its gone now. Well it works on my phone, but not this work comp. Weird.

Having C4 is kind of important in the game, and whoever has it has a significant advantage over those that don't that and the advantage is nothing more than RNG.
550 hrs and never had a c4, explosives or bolt action rifle drop :)
550 hrs and never had a c4, explosives or bolt action rifle drop :)
Almost 100h and every drop except the sniper. But I got the sniper from other players. :P
I've got something akin to 150 hours, and though I often get access to bolt-actions, I've never seen one in the wild, in its natural habitat. :P
This all sounds quite weird. Though I do have 140 hours, I have gotten around 6 C4, 8 M4s, 3 Bolt Actions and numerous of the other guns from Rad Towns. Air drops are a pain because of those blood AoE hacks, but I have gotten at least 10 C4 from those.
So my opinion is, drop rates need to be even across the board. Let's make this a game about skill.
