The m4 is a rifle, the Thompson is a smg so it is more comparable to the mp5.

Thompson is today considered an antique. Its unlikely that we would find them in a survival situation. However i would love to see m1 garand replacing that crappy looking bb-gun/rifle we have. However, a more realistic rifle would be something like a hunting rifle, like a remington model 700 or m14.
I'd like to see more makeshift guns that are made and the modern military guns are only found on loot boxes or zombies. We could have lever rifles, bolt action shotguns as an upgrade to the pipe shotgun and so forth.

Well I think the point is that you craft weapons that dont already exist?
The revolver is called revoler and not colt .45 for a reason, the bolt action is called a bolt action and not... well fuck me "remmington .22 uhrmergurds rifle" for a reason.
Its far from making the cut methinks. We'll probably have to find ammo-stations etc to craft decent ammo when this game is finished or something, but thats just speculation.
I wanna see custom fully auto guns, not early 1900s guns. A "makeshift" m4/mp5 or something would be way cooler, kinda like the revolver/9mm.
A semi-auto revolver rifle similar to the new revolvers would be sweet
M4 wont get replaced, but having a Thompson in would be fun. As far as makeshift automatic guns, what about a wasteland version of the old crank gatling guns?

Does anyone realize that the M4, MP5, P250 etc. are just placeholders and will be made much, much rarer when the final game is released? They are for testing only atm.

Yep, I think an AK47 would fit the game nicely and be really cool to use.
How about we ditch the homemade firearms, or atleast make them realistic by adding a 100% chance that it blows up in your face after 1-10 shots (might just prevent some dumb individual [games full of them] from attempting to "craft" one irl). Instead i propose more realistic weapons like, i don't know... A throwable spear|rock|hatchet|knife? As someone said in-game, a way to paint your body with charcoal for camoflauge. Cloth clothes that aren't stupidly suitable for a desert when we are in a forest. How about a way to string up a trip wire to a grenade? Or grenades that can kill regardless of armor? Or even just a way to trip someone so you can run out and harpoon them? You could take some sharp sticks, form a circle with points aiming towards the center (like a dream catcher from hell) and make the equilivant of a leg trap.
Hell i'd take a stick/club crafted from a piece of wood over that ridiculous revolver.
I have a few weapon ideas that might work well for rust with a bit of work to make them look more "rustic".

M4 won't get replaced? Do you have a source to prove that? Or do you mean it'll simply be removed.

So although the modern guns wont be replaced as in they are gone and something else is in their place, they will not be craftable anymore and sounds like very very hard to find.
