Feel free to voice your ideas for this game we could collaborate and show the devs we actually care
I'm an avid gamer who just wants the developer and/or administrators to see that the community can really help with suggestions for features down the long road of development.
Here's my story about Rust. I've been bugging my friends since the game was released as early access on steam to get it with me. I just imagined all the possibility a group of people working together could get us in this game. I was IMMEDIATELY drawn into the game. The second I started the game I realized it was not going to be easy. Survival games are being done very different now and they're headed in a cool direction. But this is why i made this thread. I want the devs to see we have some good ideas and how they could possibly implement them in the future. This game really has limitless potential
But I'm just gunna get to the chase and give them my input after spending countless hours of gameplay:

Farming:
Considering there is hunting, i believe a farming/herblore/alchemy system should definitely be of consideration. Have tons of species of plants randomly generated onto the world.
Hunting improvements:
TRAPS! Poison arrows with herbs that you get from farming.
Animal Husbandry:
Have animals fenced in and use them for food/reproduction.
Nails:
I have been getting heat from this from my friends, but i believe you should have to use nails on planks in order to use them for construction. The only reason i think this would be good is because there are countless wooden shelters around the map and none are being used. If you present the requirement for nails in the shelter building process then less people will throw a shelter wherever. Possibly use 3 metal fragments per nail. 4 nails per plank to be usable for construction.
Skills:
Possibly have skills for every aspect to be honest. Crafting skill would present faster crafting, higher percentage of more output from crafting, have to use less ingredients, have other ingredients be able to substitute. Hunting skill would allow you to track animal footprints/scat. Possibly get a reticule for the bow. Gun skill would allow better gun aspects as any game would. Stealth skill would be MINT! Noise reduction, better "behind npc/pvp" melee. Back of head instakill on anything. Like I said endless possibility for skills.
Lantern:
Lighting inside structures is going to be added eventually i would assume. Maybe metal fragments, animal fat, and cloth. Poof mountable lantern on any vertical surface.
Cave system:
Let me get this out of the way. No Minecraft style. Dark dangerous caves with need for torches. Ores can be hidden in caves. Lost npc's with loot.
Weather system:
Would greatly vary how people react when they join a game. Maybe even have real live earth seasons to each regional server.
Knife:
This survival tool should be a necessity.
Shovel:
Digging Moats and building drawbridges would be amazing. My friend wants you guys to add a tunneling system. I keep thinking about too much influence from minecraft but you guys can do this your own way.
Servers that don't cost money:
Let us all get a feel of the game without other players trolling. Private slots for friends and eventually open to public.
UPDATE: I am trying not to use minecraft as an influence, as it is the same kind of game but with more of a focus on real world survival. I believe these ideas would greatly improve how survival works.
oh god...
let's go play minecraft
edit: also as for shelters... why do they need to be harder? is having shelters everywhere even a problem?
not to mention, how stupid it is to have a furnace before you have a shelter to put it in, not to mention having to carry around all the supplies needed for that furnace, with no safe place to store it- along with metal ore..
there are alot of shelters on most servers... IS IT A PROBLEM? no, not really...
Why does every other person want to turn Rust into Minecraft with graphics?
I tried to stray away from Minecraft influence but the genres are pretty close knit. The devs just need to make sure survival always comes first that's why I had these suggestions instead of block placing anywhere in space lol.
oh god...

edited my post with constructive(?) feedback about the plank-nails..
Because using good ideas from other games that would fit this one and add to gameplay will ruin the game...amirite? Idiots...
Never played minecraft but all of those ideas sound pretty cool. Ignore the retards , some people have this need to be noticed that they simply cant overcome.

oh god op suggested farming, and farming is copyrighted by mojang
Theres always gathering. Call it gathering and tweak how that would work anyway you want.
oh god op suggested farming, and farming is copyrighted by mojang
I want no DDOSing...
xD
[Don't ban me please.]
i suggested in a post yesterday about being able to melt down finished metal objects for their mats. using low quality fuel instead of wood in the furnace and getting only half of the mats backs. for instance, finding a bunch of metal windows and foundations but have no use for them, throw them in the furnace with fuel and get low quality metal, same goes with guns either salvaged from crates/zombies or raided from player houses.
I think weather would have the most immediate and interesting impact on gameplay. Rainy nights make for perfect raids and counter-raids. Husbandry would be cool as well, but animals already respawn in set areas so it's sort of halfway implemented already :v:
weather system omg that would be so f.cking awesome
[editline]19th February 2014[/editline]
about mines and caves, it'd be cool if the mines in the caves would give you more metal, that'd add more danger to some caves and thrill to the gameplay.
Salvaging system.
Found too much loot? Boxes full of leather armor and wooden doors and no use for it? Why not salvage stuff back to leather, wood and other initial components?
Done with salvaging tool or a simple context menu on the item, close to the workbench.
Caves would be awesome for camping out in and killing people. Also for base building.
I imagine they would very desirable if they were big enough. The fights that would ensue over the territory. It would be war. :tinfoil:
I'd like a little bit of everything mentioned, but I chose knife, cause you're right, it's a necessity in survival. Plus it'd be super fun to sneak up on people and shank them! shank shank shank!
weather would be a great addition that would add to, but not detract from game play.
-since the game revolves around people stealing everything you have, farming doesn't really make sense to me. i can't really imagine having a farm as it would be too difficult/impossible to secure.
-nails are bad (increase decay on shack's if that is your objective).
-tunnels too easily abused, too hard to implement.
-skills have some potential, although skills that are PvP related would be the only ones chosen.
-knife is good, but would only be aesthetic feature, it does not add any new game play.
edited for better organization
Unpopular opinion, but I really hope the developers continue to not listen to the community and just keep with their vision of the game. I honestly believe that people have no idea what they really want and will say they want all of these neat features but will be the first to be raging on the forums when the mechanic doesn't work well with the game.
