Server Wipes - Rust - Facepunch Forum

Server wipes need to be fixed. For a game that takes so long to farm up to the point where you have everything to wipe every 3 weeks is a travesty. There is absolutely no reason that server admins should be forced into wiping the server every 3 weeks on the dot because of the way the game is coded. If I had known prior to buying this game that every 3 weeks, every bit of time I had spent was wasted in this game, I never would have purchased it. Even though I love this game, and I have had a ton of fun playing it, every single person that I see from here on out will hear from me that this game is not worth the money and that they should never spend a penny on it. Losing progress for no reason is stupid. A player sinks their heart and soul into farming/grinding rad towns/surviving bandits only to have everything taken away after only a few weeks. Characters should be local instead of server based. I know the fanboys will say "omg its an alpha nooooooob!!!! live with it!!" but if it's an alpha, than the dev's shouldn't be charging money, and there definitely shouldn't be any wipes because the only thing that ever gets tested is going from bambi -> kevlar then wiped again.

Play offical then ffs. Choice is yours

I have no idea where the issue is with wiping. At some point you have everything, what else would you do ingame, other than crafting C4, go killing random players or blow up some houses. I didnt wipe my servers for more than 8 weeks straight. There is no "admins are forced into wiping". Because they are not. After tops 5 days, you have every single Blueprint, you can craft metal parts, build your metal base 5 days later, after another 5 days you have a full storage room with shit you cant craft into C4. So a wipe every one or two months isnt that bad at all.

Patches rarely force admins to wipe their servers. They do it because they want to. If you don't want a server that wipes then pay for your own server.

Wipes are a fact of life in alpha and if you can't handle that, stop playing Rust for six months. Nobody forced you to pay for the game, and you'll get the finished version, so nobody's screwed you out of anything. You have received exactly what you were promised: An alpha with a release date sometime in the future.

I bought the game with my own free will, however I never would have if I had known how often my time would mean nothing. And they're charging for access because the demand for free keys outstripped the availability by like 50x, but that's a piece of Rust and Facepunch forum history you weren't around for. Use your free will and play games that are actually closer to being finished if you don't like it. Rust will be here when you come back.

So they change settings, add 12012490712 plugins from Lowxide and expect it to run smoothly.

Oh and let's not forget about the official servers... Gosh it's been a really long time since those ones wiped, afaik. I'm pretty sure it's been months. Basically dude: fuck off until you figure out what you're talking about because you've clearly got some misinformation.

He still thinks its the code, which is responsible. Which is only partly true. The biggest issue are the admins. Maybe his server wasnt lagging that bad, just the admin got raided and was butthurt, so he wiped. :v:

I haven't seen a single server that says "no wipe" that actually has a player in the server. Every server with players is "fresh wipe!!!" or "wiped 2 days ago!"

My map save files peaked at 2MB each and my player data folder has almost 1000 players in it. The total object count on my server peaked at 20,000 last week. It's a 50 slot server and it regularly has 10-20 players on it daily with slow decay. I do have performance issues if the server runs continuously for days, but I have a scheduled task that runs Steam Update every day, which works like a normal restart if there's no update. RAM usage for my server never goes above 900MB and that's only 5% of what FPSplayers allows. I think the issue here is that most owners don't understand the difference between needing a wipe and needing a simple restart. [QUOTE=pandanatr;44186376]I checked on toprustservers.com. It has already been mentioned the amount of unknowledgeable people who have servers and just delete whatever they want,thus resulting in a wipe. For a server to have that much memory loss yes, it could be a highly populated server and may need to "reset" for lag purposes but the only way it should ever require a wipe is if there are so many people with buildings everywhere. Then, yes..admins do wipe to make a clean slate and a more lag stable environment. As a admin, I have only been into 1 forced wipe on my server. That was with the most recent Rust update which required a wipe. I have never purposely wiped my server. And trust me, the only other servers that I have been on that wiped were because of admin error.
