How to fix FPS lag in experimental? (Main branch now)

The experimental, meaning the new main branch now, has bad optimization for me, on average I'm probably looking at 20-30fps, which for me is unplayable, legacy was always fine FPS wise for me, and I can run games such as BF4 On utlra, and mostly any other game on high / max settings, so I know it's just rust not currently being optimized well, but is there any known fixes in improving the FPS?

Wait until the game is optimized.
My performance is great right after a wipe. Usually 50-60 fps with the graphics on Fast, Draw distance around 2500, terrain quality maxed, and resolution at 1080x1920. By the end of the week after the map is covered with buildings I'm getting 10-20 fps with the graphics on fastest, draw distance at 1200, terrain quality 0, and resolution 1280x900.
Press 'F2' in game.
Enable 'Procedural Virtual texturing'
gives me about 15-20fps boost every time. It might help you a bit.
PVT does nothing for me when I enable it except make funny streaks in the textures.

agreed, after a wipe or if your not near any buildings its great but even me and my friend with similar setups did a test, on fantastic(before the options were added to the menu) when were at a place with no buildings in sight our minimum fps is around the 100 mark at all times even when we come across a building or two but the second we get around 5+ large buildings at a popular area we drop down to 30-40fps. it has to be something with the player creations, especially if someone destroys an entire building from the foundations
gtx 970
i5 4670k clocked at 4.4ghz
and he has a i5 3450 i think
I'm pretty sure the min specs are going to change once the base is out for Rust Experimental.
