• Suggestion for creatures

I am playing another game under development called Elite: Dangerous. Basically its a space simulator that includes our entire galaxy. (400 billion stars) Right now we can only land on space stations, but on a future expansion we will be able to land on planets. Planets that are not known to man yet is procedurally generated and their characteristics depend on distance from the stars and so on. What if Rust and Elite:Dangerous could be combined? Each server in Rust would be given a planet (or part of one) and we would basically be playing Rust in space. The animals or creatures we meet would also be proceduarly generated and could give different challenges along with the environment of the planet itself. Also there would be visitors from space now and then. This could include aliens but also players who fly space ships! What do you guys think? What do you think Garry? Have you talked to David Braben?
I think the game you're looking for is No Man's Sky.
I barely heard about that game. Edit: (Checked it out, looks too "cartooney".) I was just thinking that this would solve the "problem" of what kind of NPC creatures we would be up against and make for interesting game play and alot of freedom.
Creating, tweaking, and balancing a procedural generation system for creatures, not to mention animating them, would be a much bigger problem than the "problem" of what kind of NPCs are in the game. And it isn't a "problem" unless you think that the game should be finished now. Changing Rust into a completely different game concept (FPS Starbound with naked bald guys) isn't really an appropriate solution for a problem that isn't actually a problem. The devs have plenty of ideas in the pipeline. It just takes a significant amount of time before those ideas are ready to be deployed as real things you can play with.
So you want to combine a space game and a survival game where you're stranded naked on an island ? How do you intend to go to space with a rock ? Also, your "procedural generation" could be randomly assembling already made "parts" of creatures, like Spore. Anyway it's a pain, and it's not worth it
You would be "stranded" on a planet. Nudity would be optional I guess. You can choose to play as a cave man on a planet if you want to. You could also opt for flying space ships or anything inbetween.
