am i the only one fed up of the really bad hit boxes? i just get very mad when im stood there shooting a guy, i can see blood coming out of them but no hits then he turns and guns me down, this game needs huge work with hit boxes its really bad.
It can get to be a little irritating at times, but the game is also still in alpha, and the game does not revolve around shooting mechanics, so it likely isn't top priority. Just bear with it for a little while and I'm sure it will get fixed.
I don't spend all my time trying to kill people so it doesn't bother me. I also have better aim than you apparently. :v:
One thing that has killed me as well is the hit boxes on bears and other animals. I was recently hatcheting a bear and looked up to see a guy with a pistol running at me. I quickly pulled out my own pistol and shot 5 shots off instantly into his chest, every single one of the bullets hit the way too high hit box of the bear....
if blood is appearing, that means the hit registered. you just didn't do enough damage to kill him. ...you do realize you can't 1 shot people with a rock, right?

lol that is totally wrong. You can still see the blood come out but sometimes doesn't register. I have experienced this many times..the only time you know you hit is when you see the hit marker.

i've never seen blood appear without also getting the hit marker and damage noise.

You have to play more and you'll experience it. The veteran Rust players know what i'm talking about.

Happens all of the time for me when I am hunting zed's. Blood but no hit marker.
Zombies hit boxes are rather annoying. I see the wind trail on the arrow fly right through the zombie, no hit registered. Zombies are being removed according to Trello so I guess we just have to suffer through it for now.
I have not had a problem with hit boxes i join servers that are close to me.
i think a game like this hit boxes should be a BIG part of it, its survival so what good is it if you cant shoot :L yeah i can build a house but whats the point if my gun dont work.

Indeed, just set up a continuous fight with a friend using revolvers. Its going to frustrate you after a few blood spurts with no hits.
Doesn't sound like a hitbox problem, rather it sounds like a lag problem. The server has a different "snapshot" of the game than you do, and these differences mean where you're aiming isn't where the target actually is on the server, especially if they are running (in which case you have to aim in front of them - it's pretty common in some games). The blood may appear (because the client knows you're aiming at them) but the sound and hitmarker only happen if the server confirms you hit them.
At least that's what sounds like is happening.

I believe that what you're trying to say is: "The netcode is fucked, and Rust is turning into Battlefield."
But i agree with pretty much everything you said, and i think you're right :D

Not what I'm trying to say. I'm saying that this is a consequence of making hit detection serverside. There's a huge number of other games which have the exact same problem.
Actually one of the few that doesn't is the Source Engine, and that's because on the server just prior to doing hit detection for a given player's gun, they temporarily rewind the entire server back in time based on the player's ping, detect what the bullet hits, and then fast-forwards back to real time. This could prove difficult to do on such a large scale as Rust, however.

Hit boxes have absolutely nothing to do with the latency between your machine and the server.

They do if it's server authoritative, in which case having less latency means it's easier to hit your target (because there's less difference between your client and the server).
I get plenty of hits on ppl where i see blood and no hitmarker.
